The JD brochures list the lift capacity of the 210 loader (on the 2210 tractor) to be 620 lb. The JD website lists quick-change pallet forks that can go on the loader, and their capacity is 275 lb, although that part doesn't make any sense. Would this combination lift a 600 lb. cedar log with proper rear ballast to a height of approximately 36"? My guess is no, but if it can, it will save me a LOT of shopping angst and $$$.

ArkCivEng,

My guess is that the fork capacity is less because it is further out from the machine and hydraulics. That said, I know the 210 bucket will pick up more than 620 lbs, but you are right about one thing, the ballast is crucial. What the forks will pick up at what point I can't answer. Good luck with your research. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The only thing that leads me to believe it might be possible is that the 620 lb. capacity is rated at the pivot pin. If I remove the bucket and put the quick-attach pallet forks on, then the log would be resting only a few inches out from the pivot pin.

Asking the dealer would be the next logical step, but I'm sure I'll get the "Oh, you need a bigger machine..." line.

I moved-lifted a 30 ft phone pole with mine last weekend. When I was getting the pole from where it had been laying for a few years I had gotten the forks too much into the dirt at first try and all the hydrolics (drive and lift) just went into nothing mode when I tried to lift..Once I had gotten the forks out of the dirt it lifted it and operated very satisfactory..So, it seems the tractor will only lift to the relief valve kicks in.

Dont know if this story helps you any or not..I think the tractor will lift plenty enough to get most anyone into serious trouble..So be carful and always use ballest...I am very pleased I purchased the pallet forks..No regrets..

The lift capacity is often quoted to full height. Often, the geometry of the hydraulics is such that the loader has more leverage at the lower end of its travel, and can often lift 50% over its rating a foot or two.

For example, my 410 loader is rated for maybe 800 lbs to full height, but I know I have lifted stuff weighting nearly 1200 lbs a foot off the ground.

The difference in capacity between the bucket and the forks could be if the forks were seriously over-built and heavy - maybe they are just mounting the forks off of a larger tractor. It would hard to imagine it being 325 lbs more than the bucket, but it could be.

I built my own forks, and made them as light as possible to maximize payload. The JD forks looked kind of heavy to me.

I agree with the other posters in regards to ballast. ALL ratings always assume proper ballasting.
