OR you could get a lower rad hose circulating heater, which would be easier to install.

The ease of installing a lower hose heater is strictly a matter of opinion.
To remove a frost plug, use a hammer & punch on the cup part of the plug near one edge. The plug will rotate 90 degrees without piercing it. Grab it with pliers and remove.

Thanks for all the replies.
Guess I will go with my gut and get the frost plug type.....One for each tractor.

Quick update:

I ordered the block heater from Messick's.
The freeze plug wasn't that hard to remove once I resigned myself that I was going to have to rig a slide hammer after other attempts failed.
I ended up relocating the fuel filter below the mounting bracket to allow better access to the plug and socket. There was plenty of room.
No leaks as of yet.

Definitely looks like the route to go.

One tractor down. One more to do.

You will be better off in the long run. You may choose to remove the cords for 3 seasons. Less chance of a snag and loss/damage, and less UV degradation.

just put the cords in a "safe" place!!

Another quick update.

I plugged the heater in twice.
Once @25 for two hours
Once @12 for three hours.

Both time she fired up as if it were July.
The valve cover was and exhaust manifold were warm to the touch. They're about as far away from the element as it gets (within reasonable expectations).

Very pleased.
