2150 seat shutoff

I just had the seat off my 2145 yesterday and it would've been the perfect time to do this and tell you for sure. I just hooked it back up.
What you have to determine is if it is a normally open or normally closed switch. My guess is that it is normally closed. To find out, simply tilt up the seat and disconnect one of the wires to the switch. They are simply push on spade lug connectors. Pull off one wire, tape it so it doesn't short to ground and see if it starts. If it does, tie it up somewhere with it still taped. If it doesn't, pull off the other wire and connect the two wires together and tape them up well, then tie them off so they won't give trouble.
If you had posted this yesterday, I would've done this while I was recovering my seat and I could tell you for sure which way it is. Either way it will be simple to do, but do a good job taping and tieing the wires so they won't give you trouble later.

WOW, thanks - took 1 of the wires off and taped it and no more seat shutdown, gees I thought I did that in the past and it did not work, Anyway thanks a lot for the suggestion. Also, used the forums other suggestion on bending bracket on the reverse mower shut off and that worked too.
The only other thing that gets me going about the cub is the elec clutch seems to get hot and I can't turn on the mower sometimes, anyone know an inexpensive way to fix this?

I'm glad I was able to help with the seat switch. My 2145 is 13 years old so it did not have a reverse switch. I've always been able to mow in reverse. It's a good thing too, because my mowing is all obstacle course. I would've worn out the clutch long ago if it shut off every time I back up.
I just bought a Z-Force and figured out how to disable the reverse switches on it, so maybe I can enjoy long clutch life on it as well.
Anyway, give more details about the clutch and the start/stop problem.

I'm not sure if yours wiorks the same way but on my 3235 you can get off the seat while running as long as you turn off the PTO and put the parking brake on. This seemed like a small price to pay for the safety involved so I didn't disable miine. I definitely changed the "no-reverse mow" though. I have to trim around 20 trees with just enough space between for the 54 inch mower so I do a lot of forward and back gyrations.

After a while i can not turn the pto ( mower ) on any longer - works great until the end of the mowing and then because I had to go in reverse the PTO turned off and I would have to turn the mower back on and it will slip or take a lot of pulls of the PTO engagement to get the mower to activate. I read on this forum that the 2150 has an elecr clutch and it heats up and sometime will not work until it gets cold again? I don't have to activate as much now that I have changed the reverse so it does not turn off, so it may not be much of an issue, just wondering if other see this ? Again thanks for help.

I've never had to service one of these electric clutches on a lawn mower, but I've messed with a number of electric clutches on car air conditioners. The principle is the same.
On car a/c clutches, they will act as you describe when the air gap is too wide. By tightening the air gap to spec, they are most always fixed. I expect that this would be the same thing on your electric pto clutch.
Maybe someone here can offer up the air gap spec for your clutch. You need to check it with a feeler gauge and it will probably be obvious how to adjust it. If you can see how to adjust it, you might simply close the air gap about .003" and give it a try.

Norb, I used to have that problem with my 26 year old 1450. It was caused (as was mentioned) by the air gap getting too large. Mine had 4 screws or bolts that held the clutch housing to the frame, if I remember correctly. You could tighten the bolts evenly to decrease the gap. They had to be tightened selectively to keep the same gap at all points around the clutch disc. I think the gap was supposed to be .020-.025 inches.
