Interesting. The B21's hit the market in 1996 which was 13 years ago. They also have an hour meter that is based on RPM's not real time.

My bet is they missed the decimal point and it should have read 2,281.3 hrs

i believe most rpm based tachs are geared to turn 1:1 hours at rated pto speed.

yes, i agree, that is more accurate than the electronic ones that just rack up hours no matter what the engine is doing or how hard it is working.

All this discussion has me curious now. I just went down and looked up under the dashboard at the wiring to the hour meter, on my BX23. It appears that it is powered when the ignition switch is on, with no signal related to engine speed. If I had access to a wiring diagram I could verify this.

I plan on using my stopwatch, the next time I use my tractor, and see if hours are really hours. Hey, I even add an hour in the spring and subtract it back off in the fall...
