I'll second the S&W 17 suggestion that LC made. Mine is an excellent shooter.
I'll admit that I baby it. The Single six gets carried when working on the tractor or woods. The S&W is a "target range" queen.

The S&W 17 is seriously sweet. To this day my favorite target pistol of all time was a 6" K-38, Model 14-4. I truly, truly regret letting it get away. With that said, this Taurus I have will shoot with the 17s I have shot....though I would have to admit I like the feel of the 17 in my hand a lot more.

I always liked the older Smith revolvers for hand feel, but the Rugers were virtually unbreakable. Some of my Security-Sixes go back to the first edition in 70-something too. They are just plain rugged.

Also a proud owner of a S&W Model 17. Super revolver...not sure you'll find one for less then $400. The ones I've seen for sale (not many, BTW) have been pretty salty.

I assume you mean the DA/SA semi-auto .22 pistol? I have one of those and it is a fine little pistol. I really like it. It has an underbarrel rail for mounting a laser which would be a great training aid. It also comes with some grip inserts (3) to fit it to your hand. It's also pretty darned accurate. I bought it for my wife and she prefers revolvers, so now I shoot it. It is the version without the muzzle brake.

It's my understanding that Walther is manufactured/imported by S&W. I think the .22 is built under license from Walther, but I don't know for sure.

A totally different animal compared to the single-action revolver, but it might be the ticket for you. It will definitely feel different than the Bearcat.

Here's another idea; what about a TC Contender with a short barrel. Single shot, expandable in barrel length and dozens upon dozens of calibres as desired later...

I'm looking for something that will give you time to think about what you are doing between shots and loads. Let's face it with a semi auto it's just to darn fun to keep squeezing the trigger! I just want a fun gun for my daughter to learn good technique and how to take care of. We really don't need it for defense...we're pretty well covered there.

I have an H&R break top 9 shot 22 revolver target pistol (can't remember model name) but it is as fine a pistol as I've ever shot. They are no longer made but can be found. Might be pricey, I don't know.

H&R Sportsman 999, I've got one, the thing I like is how easy and fast it is to reload.

I know it's not a revolver but the Ruger Mark 3 is a dandy little plinker. 10 shot clip, fast reloading and a lot of accessories are available.

That's a magazine...a clip is something else entirely! Jeesh!

It's all nomenclature and regional dialect Mr Jackson. In our neck of the woods it has been and will continue to be a clip. Sorry this offends you! I am shocked, in the 30 plus years that I carried a firearm I was erroneous in calling the doohickey that holds the shells a clip, shoot I thought a magazine was something you read. Now your going to tell me the tube that spits out the bullet is not called a pipe! I will self flagellate with an old tractor tube.
