22 RIFLE

I have an old Stevens semi-auto that can shoot shorts if you shoot in single shot mode...the ejector handle will push in and lock the bolt.

This has been a fun thread to read.

Someone mentioned a Nylon 66. They were not cold weather guns -- and I found out the hard way. Silly me was out in about -20 degree weather. As I was coming back in the barn, I knocked the stock against the doorway as I slid the door open. My nearly new gun crumbled in a hundred pieces.

I'd love a nice 22 -- but I still have a "nostalgia" 22. I bought it new when I was about 15 -- a J.C. Higgins semi-auto from Sears. What a piece of . . . uh, carp! But, I bought it with my money.

It still jams on about every 3rd or 4th shell, just like it did in 1962! When and if it shoots, it shoots straight. It is still a very pretty gun.

Squirrels don't fear me.

That sounds like the same model I got in 1956.

I had a Winchester 190 that (I think) would shoot shorts, longs, and long rifles.

The site where I found a date of manufacture for the Winchester is this one, and I have no idea how accurate it is.

It says mine was made in 1918.

Thanks, Bird.

I've got one of those too, never did shoot on semi auto.

"I also don't know of any semi's that will shoot shorts."

FYI -

Here's one that will shoot shorts, longs, and LR's Remington Model 552™ BDL™ Deluxe Speedmaster®

I have this model, as well as an old Remington single shot bolt action, and a Ruger 10/22

22's are alot of fun (cheap) to shoot

My cousin bought one of these new when we were in high school back in the fifties .
I suppose he still has it.
I will have to ask him some time and see if he's ever shot any Coyotes with it.
He didn't back then cause there weren't any of them around here in those days.

I vote 10-22 also. I have one that's 30+ years old, and has probably 20 to 30 bricks run through it easy. All I've done is clean the bore and oil the bolt a little. If I were to get another one, I'd like to have a fancier one with a bull barrel and composite stock. I have a wind-up magazine that holds a whole bunch of rounds that works great. Great fun at a good price.

I prefer the Winchester brand of the 50s vintage. Have several semi automatics but my favorite is a bolt action with a clip.( mod 75 winchester ) The new pressed parts rifles just don't interest me.
