Re: 2210\\4010\\4110

You guys are right on the mower deck height on the 4XXX, it's controlled by the 3 pt, just not a rotary knob like the 2210. If I had a choice I would prefer the 4XXX controls, the lack of 3pt control IS a PITA. That being said, mower deck height changes on the 2210 are a breeze with the rotary know, even if Deere built them with the actual label in the wrong spot!

Re: 2210\\4010\\4110

Hey, Fred....

Yup, I struggled with box blade a lot this summer but finally got better. I also have a small dirt scoop that is a pain without a stop on the 3-PH but I don't use that very often. Still, the 2210 would be pretty much "complete" if it had some form of stop on its position control and a more deluxe seat suspension. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

For the most part, I cut my grass at 3-1/4" to 3-1/2" until the fall, then drop it to 3" to 2-3/4" for the last few cuts. Once I set my deck height, I check it and the level of the deck every month or so when I rotate sharp blades in and powerwash the belly. In other words, adjusting my cutting height is a pretty rare thing and I would trade my dial for a position stop in a heartbeat.

<font color="green"> Any John Deere engineers lurking out there in this forum?

Sounds like a model 2220 is needed that includes position control for the 3pt hitch and doesn't leak hydraulic fluid from the top link plate!!!!!!!

The 2210 is after all a model in the 2000 series. Why call it a series with a single model?

If I think of it again I will start a new thread titled "what do you want to see in a 2220."

Re: 2210\\4010\\4110

Ken,

I have the 4010 and would buy it again over the 2210 even though the bulk of my use is mowing. I agree with DocsKnot that the 2210 is a better mowing machine. The two areas I have maxed out the 4010 is the FEL and the 3 point lift height (not capacity). These are the two areas in which the 4010 is "better equipped" than the 2210.

The 3 point height comes into play if you are roto tilling in a very uneven place (I turned a former pasture into lawn) and the FEL capacity comes into play for me a lot more than I thought it would.

Anyway--Dave (DocsKnotInn) and I use our tractors for much different purposes and I think we both feel we got the right tractor for our needs.

Two more quick points:

1. If you do buy the 2210, most feel you should not go with the 60 inch box blade. I use on one my 4010, but I think general concensus on the 2210 is either 54 inch or 48 inch.

2. Don't discount the 4110--make sure you are getting all your rebates and then look hard at how much more you are going to have to pay (either in monthly payments or cash). You may be closer than you think.

With your acerage and future uses--any of the three will do fine, but hopefully you can benefit from what we have already bought.

Good Luck

Bob

Re: 2210\\4010\\4110

I completely agree with Bob. Unfortunately for me thats why I would not buy another 2210. I do not mow with it so its a bit light in the woods. I could REALLY benefit from the improved FEL specs. If I could do it again I would buy the 4115. Like Bob said its no fun getting your tiller stuck on uneven ground . Which I have done a few times /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Re: 2210\\4010\\4110

I have had very good luck with my (older) 4100 configured with the factory Ag tires on the rear and a set of wider bar-style tires on the front.

When we were building our house, I also ran chains on the rear to get traction in the wet clay we had during a very rainy summer.

Now that we have grass, the chains are off (don't even use them for plowing snow) and the bar tires have worn down a bit to the point where I don't really worry about them leaving marks in the turf.

On the mower issue, the ground clearance can be an issue if you leave the mower linkage arms hanging under the machine when removing the mower deck. I snagged one of the arms somehow and didn't notice how bent up it was until I went to mow and the deck was 3" higher on one side. It took more than a few whacks with a hammer to get it back level...

I also wish the mower deck could be set to an even higher cutting range in some cases.

As far as actual use of the FEL during construction, I found that its capacity was a bit wanting. For example, it could not be used to lift and move full units of lumber - you still had to unstack the boards into 1/3 or 1/4 unit piles to pick it up with the forks. Same thing on moving 4000 lb pallets of decorative stone. Also, when using the loader for backfilling, drainage stone placement, sand placement, etc, the break-out force was a bit shy and a fully-heaped bucket (60") would often exceed its lifting capacity.

I ended up not saving very much money over what I could have spent hiring an excavator to come in and do, but it was very convenient to have the machine around.
