2210 50 hour maintenance

Went to the dealer to purchase all the filters and oil for the 50 hour maintenance as spelled out in the manual. The dealer is trying to talk me out of it. They tell me that you don't need to do any of those things until 200 hours.
Has anyone else run into this? Did anyone not do the 50 hour maintenance?

I'm sure that if something goes wrong with the tractor and i did not do the scheduled maintenance they would be glad to cover it under warranty??

Your tractor will probably run fine waiting until you have 200hrs. to do the service. At least until the warranty period is over. What makes the difference is a few years down the road, longevity is what it's all about. I would follow the scheduled service in your operators manual.

What is the dealer's problem, he stands to make a profit on the filters and fluid you bought to do the 50 hour service and if the service is not needed WHY DID JD specify it in their manual... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Yes, you can likely run your tractor 200 hours before doing the service but how long will it be before you see the 200 hour mark? When I obtained what I needed to service my JD I stopped to chat with my salesguy, he was very pleased to learn I was planning to maintain my tractor by the book. And when I removed the suction screen it was amazing how much debris had collected on it.

If I were you, I would maintain my tractor by the specified schedule, your dealer MIGHT honor a warranty claim if you didn't perform the 50 hour service but why take the risk?

Do the service. What can it hurt?
Heck, I think 200 hrs is too long to go for the first oil change for sure. I did my first oil change at 34hrs in anticipation of putting the tractor away for the winter. As it turns out, I used it quite a bit more than I thought I would.
When I hit 50 hours I'll do the hydraulic filter and fluid change, as recomended.
One could argue that this could be held off until the 200 hour mark. Hydraulics are not nearly as stressed as engine oils are. But what's the worst that could happen, you get to remove any extra contaminants left in the system during assembly?

I agree, follow the manual. I found some debris on the suction screen as well.
I went ahead and bought a fuel filter as well.

I agree with the other posters, do the 50hr maint. I found debris on the suction screen when I changed the hyd oil on mine. I also upgraded to synthetic hyd oil at the same time.

The engine oil was mighty black at 50hrs. Rotella synthetic found it's way into the engine as well. I also changed the front axle oil to - you guessed it - synthetic gear lube.

The suction pickup is a little hard to get off, otherwise the entire job is pretty easy.

I dont know why the dealer told you not to change the filters at the first 50 hrs?? Deere wants you to change the engine oil and filter along with all other filters (except air) after the first 50 hours because during break-in of components there will be a higher amount of metal trapped in the filters, especially in the engine oil!! So I would change them!

Sheeze!! Sounds like a goofy JD guy to me!! Mine told me it wouldn't be a bad idea to change the engine oil/filter at 20 hours, then called a couple times to be sure I'd done it. Heck, he knew I wasn't even using JD oil or filters. Then he sent me a note in the mail to make sure I scheduled the 50 hour maintenance. I'd sure do it. Get all that break-in crud out of there. Thanks for the response. As I thought my fellow TBN members would reassure me that I was doing the right thing. I plan on doing the 50 maintenance this weekend regardless of what my crackerjack JD dealer says.

Did mine yesterday (about 26 hours) also had lots of debris in the hydraulic pickup (neat trick with the magnets inside to hold the crud to the screen), and boy was that engine oil black. Was a pain to get the pick-up screen holder off.
