Re: Not a happy camper!

That's great CHUCKG - glad you got yours straightened out. This thread has proven useful to me also.

Like was said before, the dealers probably aren't taking the time to do it right. Following the directions in the book aren't all that hard - I would think if a dealer went through the process in the book once, they'd be able to do it easily on all their set ups. The instructions in the book are quite simple to follow, and I'm glad I went through it for my own piece of mind.

Now for that new decal?

Re: Not a happy camper!

I have the new decal,it is the same as the one that is on there. The dealer said the problem is there are no index marks on it so the person at the factory just sticks em on. I guess one will have to find the lock position and then count a a couple clicks over, this should be five, to give you a referance, then line up the decal and see if the height works out. I was just waiting for a rainy day to go out and work the tractor a bit, havn't done it yet.

I agree that the tractor should come properly set up...but the more I talk to the mechanics the more I find out they do not carefuly read the setup manuals. When I pointed out several points in the manual they were unaware of the set up. the excuse was this is a new tractor and the mower is different. I guess you best defense is to read your manuals and know your own tractor. I don't know about anyone else here but I find it kinda enjoyable to go out in the garage and work on my tractor, once it is mine I never let the dealer touch it unless it is a warranty issure that will cost me money.

Does anyone else just go out in the garage and bond with their tractor, work on it a bit, sit on the seat and read the paper and have some coffee or a beer and watch the world go by. I hope I'm not the only one as the wife feels I'm a bit strange, I tell her its the only place in the garage to sit

With a chinese tractor, not only is it enjoyable, but required. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This past weekend, I picked up a MIG Welder and started to learn the craft as the next step of bonding is to make accessories and tackle new projects together...

Re: Not a happy camper!

Ok I'll come clean I used to be JD service tech. on lawn eq. for 5 yrs, 2 yrs doing on site service for
Sears, and 6 yrs in a small lawn mower shop.
You can level the mower deck side to side. If the mower deck is already level, adjust both sides the
same.
Remove spring pin from drilled pin from each lift arm. Turn each yoke clockwise to raise the lift arm.
Turn each yoke counterclockwise to lower the lift arm.
So if the knob is set on 4" and the blade tip is at 3" you need to turn the yokes clockwise. Then you will
need to check front to back, I always put the front 1/4" lower.
BTW if your dealer has a good service dept. they should be able to do that for you. Some dealer use Ag
tech student to set stuff up and some times thing don't get done as it should. But they have to start
somewhere.
I hope this helps. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

<font color="green">Glad to learn Chuck that you were able to correct the problem. I was hoping it was simply a matter of making the correct adjustment.

I agree wholeheartedly with you that when you spend the kind of money it takes to buy one of these tractors it is very reasonable to expect proper setup and delivery. Anything less is unsatisfactory.

Enjoy using your tractor and thanks for the tip about removing the knob.

Re:Repaired by the dealer today!

I couldn't wait to drive to the dealer so I called them and spoke with my salesman.

The first thing I inquired about was what did this "kit" consist of that they ordered to repair the "bent" part on my tractor? I was told that it was simply the bent part, which they had received, and nothing more.

Well, I was quite nice in explaining my concerns to them over what I expected the condition of a new tractor should be in when delivered to a new owner, the mower situation, having the proper manual for the mower based on the machine it is going to be used on, and the so called "bent" part diagnosis they made.

One of the primary reasons I purchased from my local JD dealer was quite simply "service." Within an hour of my phone call, their service mechanic and my salesman were at my house fixing my tractor. In fact, they have made two separate trips to my house today, a second trip was necessary because they forgot the guage for setting the height on the MMM.

They replaced the so called "bent" part with the new part, ordered the correct manual for my MMM, adjusted the MMM cutting heights, made certain the MMM height adjustment knob was working properly and accurately, delivered my box blade and installed that on my I-Match hitch, and even gave me a free JD shirt.

I was very much appreciative of this kind of service and I told them so. They were extremely pleased that they were dealing with an understanding person who didn't come to them in an "attack" mode. They satisfied my every concern before they left. Bottom line is, I am a happy customer and that's what they want as evidenced by what they did for me today.

Re:Repaired by the dealer today!

That's good to hear Chuckg.
Many times on this forum folks say that when buying a tractor, price isn't everything. Service after the sale is so important. It's refreshing to hear of a dealer this good. Actually, for dealers, its quite simple: word of mouth advertising is priceless.
