If I remember correctly, a clutch safety switch will be one of the standard items on a UTDA certified tractor.

Correct Jerry. And also the following DECAL on each fender.

I did the same thing, but it started like to have knot me down before I could get it stop. Want do that again.

Are you guys saying there is no clutch safety switch, it's not working, or you pushed the clutch pedal down by hand, (which I do on occasion, having sense enough to check for neutral)? When I bought my tractor, the dealer did that, but told me to never, ever try it, because he was a professional, (Yeah, right;) ). Yep Wayne, Joe Cooper.

My YM1700 don't have a clutch safety switch. Don't know if it came with one or not. My 2210 has a clutch safety switch . I use to start the MT on the ground and the 50JD with the suicide clutch. But I could think faster and move faster back then.

You can remedy that for about $40.00 plus shipping;) . PTO safety shield for around $25 also. What we add to make a tractor UTDA certified costs us about $100.00 IN ADDITION to the ROPS. All these components are available if someone wants to make their tractor safer.

I won't tell you I have never done that in the distant past, but I will tell you I don't do it now. All it takes is one close call to realize how incredibly dangerous it is. A runaway (ok, walkaway) compact diesel is going to hurt something or someone before it stops. Same with getting off a running machine...foot gets tangled kicks it into gear. Yes, I realize the odds of kicking the rear end and transmission both out of neutral is small...but the potential consequences are enormous....thus not worth the risk.

Ok, I am assuming a clutch safety switch prevents the tractor from starting without depressing the clutch. Am I correct? If so, did any Yanmar models come with them? I am asking because my tractor will not start without depressing the clutch somehow (whether foot or hand, doesn't matter, it needs to be depressed). Is this normal for the grey markets or was one added to mine?

My 2020 has one and I think it's factory

My 2220 has a clutch safety switch and, since it is shown in the parts manual, I'd say it's definitely factory equipment.

Sounds like you have one. Look near the clutch pedal.

Here's a diagram.

(Off-topic - Note this Yanmar-USA manual advises to begin cranking with the compression released.)
