I stopped at a dealer yesterday, and told him I was looking for a small tractor with fel. He said he could sell me the 790 2wd with fel for $12,800. So I told him it was a little more tractor than I needed, and asked if he had something a little cheaper. And he said no, he couldn't sell me the 2210 with fel as cheap as the 790. This don't sound right to me, as its smaller with less hp. Besides the 790 rates its use of fuel at 1.3 gal and hr. After using my little 20 hp Yanmar, which uses very little, that seems like a lot of fuel to do the same thing. I guess that is another reason, I don't need that large of a tractor. So how about it, shouldn't the 2210 be cheaper???

It is what it is. All gets controlled by the market and the demand. Gas prices are the same thing, as compared to Diesel prices.
If it is what you want, then likely it is what others want too. That is 'demand' which spells 'higher' price. Econ 101 over and over.

Seeing that the 2210 has been replaced, with the new 2305, I would certainly think if he had a 2210 leftover that you could
buy that for less than the 790. It sounds like he has a 2wd 790 that may not very saleable for him, and he wants to move that over the hot 2210 tractor. IF you dont' get a decent price on the 2210, do some shopping around, or shop the new 2305.

I think Dutch445 is right, the 2WD version of the 790 may be a major sore spot for him and he wants to move it. I RARELY see these units ordered in 2WD, because the difference in real money between 2WD and 4WD assuming they both have dual or no loader control values, plus or minus mid PTO is relatively small 2K.

I agree with KENSFM in that you are getting a Hydro with 4wd, A cup holder and nicer seat, Power steering, The DSCV is optional on the 790 and standard on the 2210 If my memory serves me right. The 2WD 790 use to be manual steering and with a loader it must be a pain to turn the wheels with a load. My 4WD 790 with a full bucket was a bear to turn. The 790 and 2210 lift almost the same amount of weight. I would highly recommend the weight box with either unit.I might be opening a can of worms here But Best of memory my 790 used less fuel per hour than my 2210. Most tasks are done using 2WD...however, using a loader for any kind out digging isn't one of them.
If your tasks are limited to mowing (or brush cutting in fields that are not too overgrown and loading loose material, 2WD might be OK.
However, any kind of work in stickier situations (mud, snow etc.), you'll really want MFWD.
When I was doing my search for a 790 (bought it on the Internet), I did notice a higher percentage of 2WD machines were available in the southern and south western states. For a smaller farm and R1 tires, a 2WD 790 would probably be a good choice.
The biggest advantage of the 790 over the 2210 is more PTO HP and greater ground clearance. The 790 is only available with a gear transmission (which is what I prefer).
So, what tasks do you intend to do with a tractor?

For my use 2wd is fine. I don't get any snow, or most of the time, and when I do its only 2 to 4 inches. Use to live in the north, so I don't even worry about that much on the drive, and it soon melts. Just need a loader to haul some gravel back up the hill drive to my place. I don't own the hill drive, so won't tar it. And to haul some brush from the fire wood I cut for the house. And maybe haul the chipper to the pine and cedar limbs to make mulch. Other than that just bush hog. I've been doing it with a Yanmar YM1700, without a fel, but I'm 71 years old and the tractor is almost 30 years old, so would like to have a new one, that will make my work easier and not have to worry about it might break down with its age.
