Hi Steve:
To be truthful with you Steve, I really don't know yet. I installed the new ROPS, folded it down, and that's how I have been using it. My land is as flat as an airport runway so I really have little or no use to have the ROPS in the uplock position.
However, I can comment in this regard. When I installed the ROPS I did check it for play in the upright/locked position. Once I had it in that position I did tighten the anti-rattle knobs and the ROPS was rock solid with absolutely no play.
Another comment for ya - there are two bolts that secures the top section of the ROPS to the bottom section. They act sort of like a hinge pin. By tightening these bolts or loosening them, you can adjust the tightness of the top of the ROPS as to up and down movement. This adjustment, in addition to adjusting the anti-rattle knobs while the ROPS is in the upright position, further enhances the overall sturdyness of the ROPS. Hopes this makes sense to ya.
