It finally happened to my 2210 at 90 hours - small hydraulic leak below the top link plate on the back of the transmission.

I did a search here and found where a couple machines were fixed under guarantee. I would like to see the DTAC solution sheet for this but can't seem to find one. I did find a number - DTAC #8734676 dated 3/13/03. Does anyone have this solutions sheet?

My 2210 is going to the dealer this month anyway to have the plow installed - would like to have the solution sheet to go along with it to have the leak repaired.

My 2210 had this problem. The repair was free but they charged pickup/delivery. They refused to replace the toplink hingeplate with the reinforced version, said there was no evidence of hyd. ram hitting toplink inside, so no reason to replace the part. They resealed it. Since then I have put about another 20 hours on it with no sign of leak. Leak started at about 10 hours and I am now at 40+.

<font color="green">Looks like it was finally my turn to experience the accursed 2210 top link plate leak..... I am at 58 hours but most of that time was accumulated mowing this summer using a mid-mount mower.

I hooked up my box blade to grade my driveway this weekend. Went to use the tractor for some other loader work today and noticed the leak at the rear.

Off to visit my dealer and see what they will do about it.

Is anyone not having this problem with their 2210 after using the 3-pt hitch and rear implements?

Mhalla...just sent you a PM. I'll get back to you guys on this topic when I get some time in the next couple of days. You may have to pay for dealer transport, but that should be it. If your dealer is worth his salt and worthy of your continued good graces, he should at least cut you a break on transportation.

Read your warranty. Go through the paces. Good luck.

No leaks here @ 90 hours. I have used the 3PH extensively. Must just be lucky /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I am going to get it in soon for the MMM adjustment deal and the squeak I can't seem to get rid of. Hopefully they won't say my fault do to lack of grease.
I can't get anymore in, and there is no place for the old to come out. Packed full or plugged up. Wait and see.

No leak here either (80hrs.) I am starting to wonder with one year remaining on the warranty what if this becomes an issue after the warranty is up?

about 60 hours here and no leaks. Does this take any more than a little form a gasket to fix ? Dave

Hi, Doc.

That might be a good direction out of warranty. Most folks, me included, expect a $12-$14 K tractor's hydrostatic transmission to be completely sealed and tight for the tractor's lifetime. The plate in question is under considerable strain from both internal and external forces and any break in the seal would run the risk of fluid contamination--which is the death of any hydrostat.

My toplink hinge plate was replaced with a reinforced plate. The seal broke and JD re-installed with a special sealant. I would think that anybody cracking open the transaxle to reseal a leak would void any warranty they might have left. I still have about 14 months left on my warranty and my dealer will be handling any leaks other than from hose fittings until my warranty is out.

The plate leak has been well-documented as a problem with this model. If JD owns up to the problem after your warranty is out, you would be grandfathered as long as you hadn't done any of your own work on the warranted part.

<font color="green">Went to my dealer today. My 2210 is being picked up on Monday to have the top link plate leak repaired. No charge for the pick-up and delivery. Looks like the Bloomington, Indiana dealer knows how to treat his customers well.

The dealer had a new 2210 on his lot so I looked at the rear of its transmission. It was pretty obvious that John Deere engineers changed the top link plate by increasing the width of the horizontal piece of steel welded underneath and between the sides of the hinge.

It may be reinforced in some other way but that was the most obvious difference I noticed by mentally comparing my tractor delivered in January with what I saw on the tractor on the lot.

Sorry to learn however that even with the reinforced plate, bigpete's 2210 started leaking a second time.

I told my salesman about my 2210 going in for a warranty repair on Monday and mentioned that although happy with my 2210 in many respects, maybe I should have gotten a 4115 instead so I would have had a sturdier tractor. Of course he was quick to mention how well a John Deere tractor retains its value and to come see him if I wanted to trade up!

<font color="green">My leaky 2210 came back from the dealer today.

Looks to me that the only thing done to stop the top link plate leak was to goop the plate up with lots of sealant and torgue the heck out of the four bolts. (The corners on the bolts appear pretty rounded to me!) It also looks like they left the original top link plate on the tractor.

I had better stop at the dealer tomorrow and determine on what information they based their corrective, (hopefully corrective) action. If there was a reinforced replacement top link plate they were supposed to install, it didn't get done. I gave them the DTAC number from this thread.

Sure wish I knew what the solutions sheet told them to do so I could feel more comfortable that they performed the repair properly. I hope to learn more tomorrow when I visit the dealer.
