those of you who have taken the ROPS, fenders, floorboards off: how does the MMM height adjust knob come off? I got everything off but that. Advice?

I can't really tell, but the undercarriage looks awfully similar to mine. It wouldn't matter to me if it doesn't work with a MMM because I don't have one. Nice design.

Figured out how to get the MMM knob off- floorboard off, still cannot figure out how to get the old fan off- there does not seem to be any way to slide the shaft to make room to get the fan off. any ideas? pic attached.

in another thread this was mentioned, but I cannot seem to find this on my 2210:

Replacement of the fan can be done without splitting the tractor. I replaced mine by removing the floor board, fender, and ROPS. From there you will find cover over the flywheel on the right hand side. If you remove tht you can get in and drive out the roll pin holding the driveshaft in place on the splined shaft. Once the roll pins are removed you can slide the shaft on the splines enough to remove it without having to move the transmission or engine. Taking the ROPS, fenders, and floorboard off is not a bad job. It only takes about 30 minutes

There doesn't appear to be any cover on the flywheel accessable unless I take off the dashboard.

I believe you may need to split the u-joint by pressing out the cups.

Ray2210 is right, the best way I found was to take apart the universal joint. I initially tried unbolting the drive shaft from the engine & sliding the shaft forward, but there wasn't enough play to get the shaft off the male end of the hydrstatic rear end. Here's how you take apart the universal joint:

1) Remove the 4 Clips from the unversal joint.
2) GENTLY tap the cups in one direction until one cup sticks out & can be removed (I could just take them off with my finger once they were exposed).
3) Push the joint the OTHER way & remove the second cup (should be on the same axis as the first one you removed).
4) Now push the joint along the other axis to remove the third cup. Once the third cup is apart, I could remove the center piece of the universal joint & the joint was apart.

Be VERY careful with the cups as they contain the bearings of the joint. You don't want to loose any parts or get dirt in the bearings. Once you get the first cup out, it will all click & make sense how it goes together & comes apart.

I don't know how to link back to an old thread, so I pasted 2 posts from an old thread here (see below). This is how I got my fan repaired. I took these posts, and a diagram of the 2305 driveshaft which I downloaded, to my dealer. He used this approach, and had my fan replaced the next day. You don't have to disassemble anything except the rear universal joint in the driveshaft. Hope this helps.

Hello Everyone,

I am fairly new to the forum and proud owner of a 2305. This is kind of funny, this past week I was clearing brush with the loader and of course a stick got caught in the fan and destroyed four of the blades. I was pretty disappointed with what had happened and of course like some of us here who encountered the same problem was completely going insane on how to replace the fan. I thought about taking off the floor plate, fenders, ROPS etc. Started to do that, and that was way too labor intensive. Spoke to the mechanic at the dealer and he suggested droping the shaft at the front of the machine where it connected with the engine. Again, way too complicated.

I am lucky enough to happen to know a fella who is a diesal mechanic for an excavating contractor. He stopped by and here is how we did it, in less than 30 minutes, without cutting anything.

There is a bushing, or bar that holds the mid mount mower that needs to be removed. The transmission shaft is now easily accessible. The mechanic then took the drive shaft apart at the knuckle joint closest to the fan. It seem pretty involved (I am not a mechanic). He removed c-clamps, punched out two bushings and the shaft dropped down and he was able to access the fan bolts and he replced the fan.

I am going have this fellow make me a skid plate of some sort - he is an outstanding welder, definitely a good guy to know.

I am pretty surprised myself on how easy this fan got destroyed. I am going to definitely send a letter to JD.

Hi Guys
I just replaced mine using the method of taking the universial joint apart. It was not that hard to do if you remove the bracket for the deck height adjustment, Took me about a hour but I was in no big hurry.
