Which direction do these bearing go? I took pictures but I'm not trusting how it was put together last.

One side has a inside taper, the other side has an outside taper. Either way looks like the oil hole will line up with the oblong hole in the bearing. They were installed opposite the direction it seems like they would go if you go by the hole position. Does it even matter?

The 2000 uses the same main bearings. The I&T shop manual only says to be sure and align the oil holes, nothing more.

The main bearing housing torque specs are the only ones I can not find. Any insight on that?

Also, what is the proper interpretation of "lip towards the front" regarding the seal? I keep second guessing my installation. IMG_20200813_204533.jpg

To add to the confusion, Yanmar uses the marine convention of numbering cylinders starting from the flywheel end of the engine. 'Front' in that manual might be either end.

I wish Danny Parker were still here. He knew all about major overhaul on the YM's. But he got burned in the Yanmar-USA lawsuits and went off to do something else.

Thanks, so it looks like I have the seal in correctly.

27.5 ft lbs seems pretty light for how big these bolts are, but I'll run with that.

After your comment I looked up the bolt size and if I am correct those are m10 bolts and I agree that doesn't seem to be enough torque for those bolts. If you do a good bit of mechanical work you should sort of have a feel for tightening different size bolts. If I were doing it that would be exactly what my torque would be, gooodntight. That is the only torque given in the I&T manual. The paragraph sort of covers all the two cylinders, small to large. And it does go on to list a considerably different torque for the flywheels. What grade is stamped on the bolt heads?

It's a big 7

It's a big 7

For what it is worth and if your bolts are actually 10m. The 220/226 service manual torque chart shows the 10m grade 7 bolt to torque 33-43 ft lbs.
