I have just had the 54" mid mower installed. Please help me with 2 simple questions. (1) when I put the mower into drive it very noticeably abruptly jolts the engine speed and it runs noisily with a rather metallic sound. I expected this nice piece of machinery to be very smooth. What can I expect? (2) the left front wheel, even with the small amount of adjustment to the mounting bracket at its limit, is close enough to the deck to make contact. The other wheels have a lot of clearance. Poor welding set up or normal?

Thanks for any reassurance you can give me.

I just got my 2210 with a 54 inch MMM
It is quiet and run flawlessly, sound like it is installed wrong, they can be a bit tricky

prepo,

Congrats on your purchase. Though it is hard to pinpoint this long distance, something is out of whack. Get your dealer involved; something was missed in the inspection. Your deck should put a smile on your face and be the envy of all around! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Thanks for your advice. I will talk to the dealer about the problems.

I would check the PTO shaft and make sure it is completely engaged on the splines, might not be all the way on.

I have the 62C and the gearbox was very noisy when new. I switched to synthetic gear lube and this helped. I now have 70-80 hours on the deck and the gearbox is a lot quieter.

Deere also makes an isolation kit to quiet the 62C gearbox, might work on the 54 as well. But...I thought they were now installing this from the factory so you might have it already!

My 62mmm is much quieter on my 2210 than my 54 ever was on my 425. So much so I think something was wrong or out of balance on the old 54.

A picture might help, but be sure to contact your dealer.

Glad to hear your a new owner , the same here.
I have a 54 " mmm sounds great does a GREAT job mowing so much better than the 425 w/a 54
Just wondering is the front hanger bracket across from the other side and maybe your mower wheeel is turned to the front of the mower instead of towards the rear of the mower

This may go without saying but 2 things come to mind. I always like to take the extra time to engage/disengage the pto at low RPM. Second, when I first got my deck I noticed that one of inner welded sidewalls was not bowed out enough to clear the spinning of the blade. I corrected the problem with a block of wood and a nice strong C clamp. I placed the block of wood on the outside of the deck so that I would not mar the finish and on the center of the inner wall and just tightened the clamp to create more bow in the inner sidewall. Flip your deck and and see if and where it may be hitting.
