2210 Rear PTO and Safety Switch

/ 2210 Rear PTO and Safety Switch #21
I've just ordered a JD4410, and your PTO question is relevant to me also. I found the following in the 4410 Operator's Manual I just downloaded....apparently with the parking brake applied there is an override circuit to allow PTO operation without weight in the operator seat. Might be suitable approach for the 2210 also - I would guess that it must be OHSA approved.
From the 4410 Operator's Manual on testing safety systems
1. Sit on operator's seat.
2. Lock park brake.
3. Push the rear and mid-PTO knobs to the disengaged/off position.
4. Gear Models: Depress clutch pedal completely and:
• All Models: move the transmission range and gear shift levers into the N (neutral) position.
• ePowrReverser Model: move the reverser lever to the center neutral position.
5. Start machine engine. Set engine speed at 1500 rpm.
6. Gear Models: Release clutch pedal.
7. Raise up from operator's seat. Do not dismount machine.
8. Pull the rear PTO knob to the engaged/on position.
• rear PTO should operate.
9. Unlock park brake.
10. Engine should begin to stop.

Bill,

I did try a simple by pass on a 2210 at the dealer. For some reason, a lot of his commercial zero turn mowers have been coming in with the seat switch by passed. He let me "borrow" one and try it on the 2210. I unplugged the switch from the seat and placed the jumper in the connector from terminal to terminal (closed circuit). It ran the PTO without anyone in the seat. My recollection of the wiring schematic was that this controlled various safety relays and didn't go to any type of controller or ECM that would measure any voltage or resistance.

No, I didn't rummage through the dealer's parts bin for the switches. (Although they have let me rummage for some other things before.) I actually rummaged through the JDParts website. My old 445 had headlight switches like the ones I used here. I noticed that the turn signal switch on the 2210 was of the same style as the 445 light switch. So I looked through various tractor models parts pages on the website hoping to find different switches with different logos on them. No such luck. So I went with two from the 445 headlights and 12 volt accessory switch from the X-series with the I/O label. I went so far as to find who I thought was the switch supplier on the internet, but I couldn't find a retail source for them. They did have many neat symbols available. The company name was Eaton Commercial Controls.

I'll try to post a picture of the fuse block in a couple of days. I got the fuse block from JC Whitney and had to heavily modify it to make it sealed and have one heavy lead supply all of the fuses. Recently, while exploring JDParts, I found that the 4100's use a fuse block that is not hard wired to the main wire harness like the 2210 is set up. I wish I had found that prior to finishing up my wiring. It would have looked more OEM.

Well, I need to go. Got a couple hundred emails from work that need my attention. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

John,

Good news about the seat switch being just a simple switch. That eliminates one potential problem for sure.

I'll be off, and out of touch next week, so whenever you get the pics up would be fine. Can't wait to see'm, just won't get the chance for awhile.

I did check out the Eaton site, just ran in to the same wall you did. I have some electronic supplier catalogs around here that would probaby carry the switches. Will have to look if I get the chance.

Later!
