2210 to 2520?

As I said in another thread, I looked at a 1 year old 4210 today.....making a long story short, the price is the same for that machine as a new 2520.
I'm looking to get into a bigger machine. The problem is that my dealer does not have a 2520 to look at.
So...my question....is the 2520 on a bigger frame than the 2210? From looking at pictures I found on the web, I really can't tell the difference.
The 3120 is just too big for my needs - the 4210 is about the right size, but why by a used machine with 600+ hours when i can get a new one for about the same price?
I looked at the 2520 specs - looks like it might be somewhere between the 2210 and 4210.
Is the 2520 close to the size of the 4210?

The 2520 is about the same size frame as the 4115 it replaces, or a tiny bit larger. My dealer has 3, so I don't understand why your's can't show you any????????? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The reason he doesn't have any is that he didn't become a "gold" or "preferred" dealer yet - the 2305 & 2520 were first released to the "preferred" dealers.
This guy sells over 2.5 million dollars of JD equipment a year - and we are definitely in the boonies for sure. A couple simple requirements have got in the way. Actually, because he has a bunch of what Deere calls "old parts" in stock, stopped this. What a shame, but......my service from this dealer has been top notch for over 12 years.
Anyway, back to the original question......

I edited my post (should have read 4115 vs. 4215). Your dealer might have a 4115 to look at, so you could get a size idea that way. The 2520 is a larger frame tractor than the 2210/2305. It is also smaller than the 4210. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I do not think you would regret getting a new 2520 in place of a used 4210. It is a smaller machine, but not by that much (800ish pounds of weight difference.) The 4210 would get the job done, but it IS heavier and would not be as manuverable. Although a good and solid machine, it does not have the horsepower to weight of the 2520, which would allow the smaller machine to work more quickly. The big difference would be in attachment size. The 4210, due to its weight and frame size, can handle slightly larger attachments, but it will not handle them as easily as a 2520 would handle smaller ones. If I were myself to choose between the two machines you mention, I would not think twice about going with the 2520. Keep in mind that you are dealing with two machines with the same engine power. The only real difference is the range number on the tranny, as far as power train goes.

I ran the 4210 for a little while, and was a bit displeased with the power. It really seemed to struggle just running around on flat ground - let alone on a hill.
Form the research I've done, the 2520 would be just about right for me. A lot of nice features and performance above the 2210.
I've pretty much settled on getting a 2520. Now to just find the money......what else can I get rid of to offset the cost.... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

That's been a common complaint with the 42xx series tractors.
Better off with a 790, if you are man enough to use a gear tranny. (Boy, I know that comment will stir the pot!! LOL!

Ahh - won't stir me up.....
After doing a lot of reading here (before I ran the 4210), it helped me knowing what to look for.
I did look at a 790 - a bit on the large size for what I need I think. Plus, I do a lot of finish mowing in the summer, and won't be without a hydro for that.
I'll be calling tomorrow for a down and dirty quote. My dealer seems to be treating me will with my trade so for.

Then, one of the hardest parts of the decision....

Turfs, or R4's...........I think I'm leaning to the turfs for what I do.

I feel you would like the R4 tires better. They do not tear up turf, even on larger tractors, so on yours they would certainly not. Some people in the forum really like turfs, but for most uses, the R4's are the way to go. You would not regret getting them.

John, that is true on firm ground but, in my experience, the R4's can tear up the turf if the ground is a little soft. I had turfs on my JD 755 and now have R4's on my 4310. 40% of the time I would prefer turfs on the 4310 as I do mostly mowing. If the ground is soft (spring/fall) the R4's will dig in and distrub the turf where the turf tires might spin a little and smear the turf. The R4's bite, as they should, and they leave bite marks.

On the other hand, I would curse at the turfs when doing loader work in any kind of damp, mild mud conditions. The turfs would instantly fill up and become worthless. Very frustrating trying to dig into a pile with tires that won't grip. That's why I went to R4's but I am considering getting a set of turfs to swap out as needed.
