Bill,
I assume that the U-joints are the same as in my 2210. Not to sound dumb, but where on the joint is the zerk? I had the dust boot on the front shaft off today to clean out the debris and looked where to grease it and couldn't find anything. Didn't even look at the rear one yet, but I'd like to get both greased. Where are the grease points on the u-joint? :confused3: Thanks!

According to the mechanic they fixed the issue of getting to them on the 2305. Still may not be easy but apparently easier than the 2210. I haven't had the chance to crawl under my 2210 to try to find them yet. But to replace them the work order says: "Needed to remove rollover protection, seat, fender deck and floor boards to remove shaft from machine." $449.50 in labor costs.

Thats exactly how I greased mine. Removed the ROPS, Rear fender section, floor board and front kick panel. Takes about 3 hours. Tried the needle fitting from under the tractor but ended up with grease everywhere but inside the joint so I decided to take the tractor apart.

Jim, if there is a dust boot, you are probably looking at the wrong shaft. The one with the dust boot is for the front wheel drive. Bill is looking at the drive shaft that goes from the engine to the transmission which is situated just above the one with the dust boot. Hope I got that right. By the way, the drive shaft for the front wheel drive have no zerk, at least not on mine.

Thanks. I didn't know if the front shaft was configured the same as the drive shaft as far as greasing it is concerned. I'll crawl around some more and find the u-joints on the drive shaft. Sounds like an awful lot of work just for a few squirts of grease, but the alternative (cost, downtime, etc.) seems worse. Doesn't sound terrible to get at it, just a major PITA. :mur:

Is there a hole or something in the u-joint for the needle adapter? I never used one so I'm not familiar with it's usage. Tried to Google some info but all I found was the needle to pierce a dust boot in CV joints.

Used the needle and press it in the opening on the middle of the zerk, hold it there and pump some grease in. Its a little awkward but I always manage to grease my 2305 from underneath since I bought it. My only concern is that the grease only come out from 2 of the 4 cups on the rear joint, so not sure if all of the joint is getting grease.

Thanks! Will try to find it & give it a shot.

Got mine at O'Reilly Auto Parts and had to make a "slight" modification. The tip lines up with the tiny checkball in the zerk.

Henri88, you are correct.

Just a little tip if you guys want to solve your u-joint greasing problems.

When replacing the joint, pull one cap, drill a hole in the center. If you have the clearance, install a regular grease zerk, if not, use one of the needle point zerks.
Will probably make life much easier.

if it was a 90 degree zerk, i think a regular grease gun would work. i think mine is 45 degree zerk. it doesn't allow enough clearance.

I had my 2210 in at the Ford New Holland Kubota dealer yesterday for its 100 hr oil change an lube up. I told them when I brought it in that that shaft needed lubing.

When I went to pick it up I asked if the tech lubed that shaft, he replied yes I lubed the pto drive-shaft, I asked what about the engine to trans shaft? he said Huh?

Service manager went out, slid under the tractor, and started to expand my vocabulary. They then put the tractor up on the hoist, 3 techs, one electric grease gun with the needle, 15 minutes more swearing, one guy held the flash light, one held the grease gun and the shop manager aimed into the fitting. All good to go.

They had some kind words for JD's engineering. Since the work order was allready done I didn't get charged another man hour for the 3 of them.

I figure if they are going to ding me 95 dollars for labor on an oil change that shaft is going to get some grease!

total bill to oil change, lube and service my snowblower that needed a $3 lock collar replaced.. $450.87 yikes! JD quoted me $240 for the oil/lube crazy parts are 87.34 ouch.
