The link below is to a Befco technical page. Even though your issue is related to a different type of implement, the principle and safety standard for shortening a PTO shaft is the same.

Basically, you need a minimum of six inches of shaft coupling overlap at the maximum working length (lowest 3PH working point) of the PTO shaft assembly. In turn, you need a minimum of two inches of depth play at the shortest collapsed (raised or transport) PTO shaft position so you don't bottom out when you raise your inplement. Get it close to those specs and you will be safe and happy. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
