Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

OK.. someone educate me in comparing the HDAP's, R-4's, and turfs..

Is the HDAP tire as sturdy as the r-4's (i think of the r-4 as going less prone to punctures, being a industrial tire)

How would you rate the HDAP as far as traction? Better then turfs, but less then R-4's?

Would the HDAP's due less yard damage then r-4's?

thanks

The 2210 may lack position control but the whole 3 pt setup is so much better than the X series /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif By position control he meant that you can't very well put the 3 pt bach to the same place everytime.

I had the HDAP on a X585 and now have R4s on the new 2210. I have only used the 2210 for about 2 hours today and I can't say that traction is better for one or the other. I will say that the dirt doesn't stick to the tire on the R4s as compared to the HDAPs. I didn't notice damage to the lawn while turning with the R4s. The HDAP are pretty agressive. Time will tell.

Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

Brian,
The HDAP tires are very good. I think probably as good or better than the R4 tires for traction, and probably also for flat protection. The R4 tires may have a higher load rating, which makes them appealing for loader work. In mud or snow, I cannot imagine a tire better than the HDAP ones. I had a 595 with HDAP tires formerly, and I was really impressed with their traction in mud and snow. They were just outstanding. The R4 tires likely are not quite that good, but as mentioned may have better load carrying capability. I recall my 595 with the 45 loader I had really compressing the front tires when run at recommended pressure over uneven terrain with the bucket full. I never had any real trouble with the HDAP tires damaging turf, even when slightly wet. I suspect the R4 tires to be about the same. I really do not understand the appeal of turf tires in this class of tractor. For the most part, these machines are light enough that unless one is mowing really wet or soggy terrain, the turf's offer no advantage, and compromise on traction. The main good thing about them in winter is they are slightly easier to chain than the other two, if that is needed.

Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

andre,

The 2210 rockshaft (3PT) control has no stops other than full up or down. What this means is that if you want to go back to some intermediate setting, you either guess at the location, or use the extra chain I was curious about and commented on earlier. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

first, I talked to the dealer yesterday and he said the HDAP are still not an option on the 2210 officially. what he did was another tire swap for a guy who didn't want HDAP on his x595. obviously people are able to talk their dealers into putting these on the 2210. ANYWAY, I have HDAP's on my 2210 due to a dealer swap-out. I will say they are very light, "delicate" tires as I have had them get punctured and consequently got to feel the tire. The tread seems to grab nails. IF, I F I were going to do a LOT of dirt work the R-4's would be the obvious choice. But being a heavy tire probably wouldn't give a very good ride for mowing. I would bet the R-4's would be a better chioce for muddy work. The HDAPs seem to pick up a lot of mud. I do mostly mowing, a little dirt work, and snow plowing. For what I do the HDAP is a PERFECT compromise. turfs simply don't seem like they'd make the most use of this machine's traction and power in my situation.

Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

I do a lot of dirt and sand work but I still chose the turfs on my 2210. All the tires they offer are the same ply rating so there was no real strength gain that I saw. The difference for me is that the turf tires have more surface area covered with tread and I hope this thicker rubber vs the thinner rubber in the gaps on the R4 treads offers better puncture resistance. Even with the turfs I keep the front tires slimed as they are easy to puncture when using the FEL. My neighbor has a 2210 with the R4's and we have each tried each others machine. Neither of us notice any gain or loss with the different treads. IMO the tires are to small and the 2210 weighs too little for there to be a significant gain from tread pattern alone.

Docsknotinn,
What brand of slime, and how much did you put-in your front tires?

Re: 2210\'s with more tire choices

I dont know what brand. I got it at TSC and they sell pints and larger jugs. I used a larger jug in each front tire and it works great. It is bright green....Just like slime should be! LOL
I hope that helps and you might find it in the TSC master catalog.
