226D rear drive problem

yea you have snaped the main shaft in the transmission I think that powers the rears. Or like Winston said sheared the ring gear...or snapped or rung off an axle, that is why he wants to see if a rear will turn if the diff is locked. If you know the front axle is pulling you still have front drive and the shaft you see to the front axle is fine and working.

There is no shear pin in the drive line.

Yes, Winston got my head straight via PM. Just had a chance to check a few more things and here's what I know:

Rear left does have drive when diff lock is engaged.

PTO works normally.

Jacked rear right and it freewheels even when in gear (although with a bit of mechanical resistance)

Start it up, put it in gear, and rear right will turn, but feebly and can be stopped by grabbing the tire.

Thanks everyone for the education: Guess I was sick that day!

Sounds like the right final pinion (brake shaft) is broken. Part #194430-33410. Opening up will be only way to tell for sure.

The problem was precisely what Winston described. Took awhile to get parts but I am back in business.

Thanks all,

Chris
