Hey guy's! New member here, though i have been reading like crazy for the last week or so.
I just had delivered a 2006 2300 with FEL,60" MMM, 5' back blade and a 4' box blade. Was raining here in WI all day so i just cleaned it up and greased everything and made myself familiar with my new MF. Replaced a 80's Sears garden tractor...what a difference!
Anyways, i dont know if i have a problem or not. Was messing with the deck, took it off, greased it, etc...put it back on according to the instructions, adjustments and what have you. Now, when i turn the knob on by my feet to adjust the deck height, and go to lower the deck, seems like only the left side of the deck is actually being "restricted". the right side will come down another 3/4 - 1". What gives? Is this how the deck height adjustment is supposed to be? I would think i could just lower it to my preset height and start mowing?
I wanted to try and cut some grass between rain,so I have my deck wheels adjusted to where i wanted to be height wise, and put the "knob" adjustment as low as it goes, then lower the deck until the wheel touch the ground , and then up a bit,try for a 1/2".

What gives? what am I missing? This is my first "real" tractor....so I'm unfamiliar with some of this stuff.

Thanks, Jeff

There has been quite a few posts on "mower leveling" in the past.

But here is what I do:

- Park the tractor on the driveway (or some other level surface)
- Lift the mower to the proper height (notice the height of the left side)
- Turn the adjustment against the weight of the mower
- Adjust the right side bolt on the mower pullup arm to level the mower (shutting off the tractor when doing this is not a bad thing and is most likely advisable)

There has been much discussion here about whether the mower wheels should touch the ground when mowing. I personally adjust the wheels so they are about 3/4" off the ground and only touch when going over a bump to prevent scalping. If you don't adjust it this way, the rear wheels will tear up your turf when making a sharp turn.

Unfortunatly the manual doesn't cover this very well (among many other things).

Good luck with the new tractor, I have certainly had a lot of fun with mine.

After spending the weekend with my tractor tilling and mowing, I want to revise my MMM adjustment. I spent some time last night adjusting and leveling the mower. Here is my new procedure:

- Park the tractor on level ground

- Lift the mower so all wheels are off the ground.

- Adjust the front wheels to the height you want to mow at (I have come to the conclusion that the front wheels should lightly touch the mowing surface)

- Drop the mower until the front wheels lightly touch the surface.

- Check the height of the rear of the mower and adjust the threaded piece that connects to the control arm for the mower on the side that is lower (or higher) than the front. Each turn appears to be about 1/8". Of course you have to remove the pin and you have to block the mower up somehow to take the pressure off.

- Adjust the rear wheels to be 1/2 - 3/4" off the ground.

This is my way and it seems to work but I am "usually" open to suggestions.
