I have been looking for a tractor for a few months and today I looked @ the JD2305 seems like a nice little tractor.
The only thing I worry about is how low the hydro filter hangs, I can see ripping that off in a heart beat. Do they make a skid plade to cover that?
Local price on these are a little high what JD dealers do you guys use that ship or are close enough to New england to go pick up that do better pricing. I need to price some other local dealers.
Has anyone on here used muttons that runs the adds on here. AnyJD dealers frequent the boards like over @ the kubota boards.

RoadKill,

Have you checked out Farmington Valley Equipment? Jack Wilcox has always done good by me. As for the filter being low, it is one of those things that comes with the low center of gravity. I've never punctured or damaged mine, but I do keep an extra filter and fluid on hand. :) A skid plate could be fabricated, but it would have a hard time accomodating the MMM shaft.

Never had a problem with mine......150 hours.

Does your filter hang low?
Does it wiggle to and fro?
If you hit it with a rock
will it interrupt the flow?
Can you fashion it a guard?
Or is there any other mod?
Does your filter hang low?

:)

I haven't heard of the filter being much of a problem on the 2305, the only thing that comes up every so often is the cooling fan getting a stick in it and breaking the blades. I don't know if they've added a better guard but it doesn't stop most people from enjoying the 2305.

I haven't had an issue with mine, but I haven't had it in the woods yet, either! I'd also like to have a skid plate in place of the MMM when I start clearing the woods. But so long as we're careful about what we're running over, it shouldn't be a problem. I guess I've thought of it as one of the drawbacks to having one of the smallest tractors available for the power and capability it has.

Not to scare you off on the 2305 - But you will probably run into more problems with the hydrostatic cooling fan than anything else (unless JD has modified where it is mounted)... A lot of ppl have knocked off a blade or two or three from stuff underneath hitting it..

The dealer said they had a couple fans they replaced and JD paid even out of warranty.
He said they made some changes to protect the fan I saw the fan but didn't really inspect it. The fan is a whole lot higher up than that hydrp filter.
I know kubota BX has a fan issue, and they do not have a factory fix for it but Bro-tec makes a skid plate for that tractor.
If all you can do with this is play on the grass and driveway its not the tractor for me, which is too bad as I like this better than a BX.
I would worry in the woods if you stradle a small rock I think you would take it out.
I may go back today and take another look to see what type of skid plate could be made.

Pehaps Bro-tec will make one for it along with a thumb and ripper for the BH like he has for the BX

I wouldn't think it difficult at all to make a skid plate to hang on the MMM lifts and front support bar. Not that I could do it, but someone with fabricating experience and tools probably wouldn't find it hard. Consider it another implement if you need to be in the woods...
