I have a JD 2305 and have noticed a rotational noise since the tractor was new that seems to be coming from the rear end somewhere back by the rear PTO and the PTO is off. When I backup this noise seems to be a bit louder than going forward. The noise reminds me of one of my old cars when I was younger that had a manual transmission and backing up in it at a fast speed over speeding the backup gear. The fluid level is correct and this tractor has 17 hours on it. Has anyone else noticed this rearend noise and is it a normal noise?

stu,

The transaxle in these tractors does whine a bit. Is yours excessive? I don't know. Perhaps you could swing by your dealer and drive another 2305 for comparison.

Yes I feel it's a bit louder than it should be. the engine runs so nice and sounds so good and then I hear all the noise from the rear. I purchased the MCS and with the 54" mower the fit is a real mess. I am going to wait until spring and take both issues to the dealer in one trip.

I noticed the same thing on my 2305. I finally narrowed it down to the rockshaft lever. Sometimes the lever will return to the middle position on its own, but other times I have to manually shift it back to the middle. I've just about determined that the weight of the rear implement affects the automatic return to the middle.

My rockshaft lever is in the middle and it still makes the same noise, does yours change noise when the rockshaft lever is in different locations?

Mine makes more noise in cold (sounds somewhat like it's really hot) and just need to get warm. Is the weather really different now compared to when you first started operating the machine?

Yes it is colder now but it still sounds the same.

When I first got mine there were several times that I thought that the transmission was too loud. I too noticed the disparity between the purr of the engine and the whine of the transmission. I must have gotten used to it. After mowing season I bet you will too.

my Kubota has the same whine, especially when it is cold.... when it warms up it goes away.... guess I need to wrap her in a warm blanket and give her a warnm bottle of milk

Hey Stuath... Give your dealer a buzz if you think it's excessive. My old 425 was noticeably a little noisier when it was cold out. My 2520 is super quiet but my 2305 and 2210 I've had do whine a bit more in the cold. Noticeable, but not loud. Let us know what you find out...
