I went through the usual orange vs. green process, and ended up going green. In the end, it just seems a bit better built. The price between the two was a wash. It should be here in a few days. 2305, cx FEL, R4, 54" deck. $13400.

The interesting thing I wasn't expecting (nor did I ask for) is the independent lift. I am getting it though. This makes me wonder a bit if it is that much of an advantage. I have no need to mow and do loader work at the same time, so that seems OK. I can bet it'll be nice to be able to move the deck with the loader arm. However, I have heard a lot about the deck creeping down... Don't want that. Can't it be absolutely locked up?

The other worry is the R4's. I went ahead with them because I have multiple jobs for the tractor. I do have some nice lawn that I don't want to tear up though. I guess I may have to live with a little bit of 'tread turf'. I have about 1 acre nice lawn.

Finally, a bush hog is next on the list. I have already priced and allocated for a squealer SQ142 ($895). Does a 2305 work best with the 42", or can I really do a 48"? I will be mowing about 2 acres field, and the edge of a greenbelt with blackberries, scotchbroom, small saplings and such. There are some steep slopes...

I think the jury is still out on this, as you said-there have been leakdown problems. I do believe itr can be locked up though...

I wouldn't worry about the R4's, you won't tear up the grass if it's dry and you stay out of 4WD(MFWD)

I would go with the 48" to cover your tracks, you can always take less than a full pass if you are cutting tough stuff. I think JD even recomends the 48" on their website.

Also, are you getting an I-Match? If so MAKE SURE that the rotary cutter you get is compatible.

turk,

COngrats on your purchase! :) I'd strongly suggest you consider the 62C mower deck. It has a better overlap over the wheelbase which allows for better edging--especially around curves etc--and will reduce the uncut circle to 36" and push the ROPS further away from trees etc.

IMHO, I see no reason to get the independent lift. Without it the rockshaft control operates the MMM and 3PH at the same time. Worst case, if you need something on the 3PH at the same time, you set the height dial to lock.

Make sure your dealer pays attention to the leveling of the deck and adjustment of the lift/height mechanisim (as well as all the normal setup and check items).

You may want to consider negotiating in the first (50 hr) service.

JDFANATIC is right on the money with the 62C recommendation. It's a couple hundred more, but well worth it if it will fit through the spaces you need it to. I also recommend that you put the ROPS lights on the inside of the ROPS instead of the outside and add the ROPS light guards (~$40).

Congrats and good luck!

I have the 54" deck and wish I had been smart enough to get a 62". I've already broke one of the ROPS lights on the house deck trying to get under it too far. And the ROPS has banged the satellite dish and trees... The extra reach is well worth it if you can swing it. Otherwise, enjoy the purchase, you'll get a lot of use out of it!

The 48" bush hog should be fine. In low range it has plenty of power. In high range on level ground with weeds/grass it has enough power but for me is limited by the rough ride even with the tire pressure down.

Go with the 62C. You will thank youself later - I promise!
