Kept hearing a tinny sound ,vibration, this summer then and I had noticed fan seemed loose. Tightened fan none of the bolts were loose, but moved left to right 1/2-1" either direction.
Over a week ago blowing snow and vibration sound kept getting louder. Next evening went under tractor and was able to spin the fan called JD and ordered a fan.
Sat a wk ago ,without reading forums on replacement of fan, I started removing parts to lift floor off to change fan. When I couldn't get floor off went back under tractor and looked closer to broken fan. Wrong fan was OK the bracket holding fan to transmission fan was causing all the trouble .Called JD again and ordered bracket..Wed morning 730 started to remove the 2 split pins in drive shaft and snap ring near engine. Remove these pins 1 at a time . I took a1/4" drill bit 12-15" long and filed it down ot about the size of a 8-10 penny nail. Then used another punch about the size of a 16-20 penny nail to take out the other pin. After 4 1/2 hrs had fan and bracket out ,and back in plus bar for MMM with the help of my brother in law. 3 hrs later still did not have snap ring back on near engine. Needed a larger pair of snap ring pliers to install snap ring. A friend stopped on his way home with different size snap ring pliers ,he had it on in about 5 min.. Everything back together and working fine now no tinny vibrations.
Read and trust forums this one and (My Tractor Forum sorry) don't go off on your own removing parts till you know what you are doing ... Lost 10-15hrs removing and reinstalling all the items I had taken off of floor and cab.
Long story short total cost of repair $192.53 ,, bracket 154.88 and did put on a new fan 24.25..
The 2 bolts on back of bracket I'm guessing may have been loose this summer ,don't know if I had tightened them this summer if it would have helped or not. But if you hear a tinny sound vibration, check this bracket ,photos are of broken bracket there should be splines on inside of bracket . At first I thought the new one was made a little better I don't so . Sorry for no other photos ,batteries were dead on camera day of repair.
