2310D

The 2310D is almost exactally the same as the Yanmar 276D which was a US import model and parts for the 276D are available, plus the Maintainence and operators manuels are also available and in english. I have used the maintainence amnual to fix a headgasket and bad throwout bearing.

Thank you very much for that tidbit. I don't have any known mechanical troubles with the tractor right now, but it is always good to know what options are out there.

Do you, or anyone, know the exact model number or description for the motor and/or tranny - the big parts? I know that the tranny is a Powershift and the motor is 3 cylinder, 28 horsepower, but I imagine that the tranny and the motor both come in different model designations for different trators and horsepowers. For instance, say I lose an injector and need one fast. I go to the JD dealer here locally, and ask for what? I know they used my YM motor in some of their models, and if I could just tell them a certain model or even motor or tranny number, then they would get me the correct part without questioning my tractor.

Thanks to everyone for previous and forthcoming advice.

From what I have heard here on this board, John Deere has told the older model customers to go to Yanmar for engine parts.

I see. Well, that is somewhat ironic isn't it, seeing how they made them in the first place?

(stands on soapbox)
These compact tractors form a quirky little industry. Lots and lots of brand names, made by lots and lots of different people using lots and lots of different model numbers to describe the same thing. The real problem is that no one wants to help you out unless you have their specific brand and model. I kind of understand that as they want you to buy it from them, but refusing to sell you a part isn't going to make you sell your current tractor and buy theirs, is it? All it does is take away a part sale from them. Seems counterproductive to me.
(steps down from soapbox)

I will ask for Yanmar 276D parts if at a local dealer and try to order as many as I can for my 2310D online. I know I can get nearly everything online, but just wanted local options if I get in a pinch.

I am still learning about how this grey market works, so I appreciate all of the advice and information. If anyone still has anything to add, I would be grateful. An "american" engine and/or tranny model number might be helpful at a local dealer, so if anyone knows that, that would be great. Thanks again.

Okay, John Deere did not make Yanmar tractors. Yanmar made Yanmar tractors. Yanmar also made some John Deere tractors for John Deere. It is not in Yanmar's or JD's best interest at this time to supply you with parts for a 30 year old tractor which was not intended to be sold in America. I won't speculate on all the reasons why they think that but that is what they think. Some JD dealers will sell you parts and even help you match them up. The one that is closest to me won't help you if you tell them you have a Yanmar. Yanmar USA did sell some tractors new in the USA. They still supply parts for them. So if you know the part number from one of them you can get parts from an authorized Yanma USA parts dealer.

What I said may not have come across correctly. I know that Yanmar made JD tractors, at least for a while, and that they make their own stuff, as well. That is what the basis of this entire question has been.

I have since learned that the YM276D, American import Yanmar, is probably the closest legally imported model to my 2310D. I have also learned that there really wasn't ever a direct JD model like mine sold, but my 2310D may share some parts with various JD models from that time. Apparently, JD is now referring people with their older models directly to Yanmar for parts support, which I find ironic, since Yanmar made them to begin with. I don't think JD wanted people to really know that in the beginning. That is what is ironic.

Anyhow, this gets more interesting as it goes. Bring on more tidbits if you have them. Thanks again.

Even Gray Market tractors are "legally imported."

Correct. I should have probably said "factory imported model".

The only parts I have found to actually cross over directaly are the KEY and the banjo bolts that hold the diesel injector lines on to the injectors themselves. The clutch and pressure plate I had rebuilt at a local rebuilder, and found out the clutch was for a mitsubishi and the throw out bearing came fron toyota if I remember right, but do not know which models. I use local rebuilders if at all possible because of the good workmanship I get and the reliability I have had(it is a bunch of work to split a tractor) so the slightly higher expense is worth it to me. I also have gotten parts from Lens Shaffer(SP?) and Tom Fredricks Dad, I live close to him and bought my Yanny from him. Was very satisfied by both...

Clifst2130,

That is good stuff to know. I am really hoping to never have to do major work on the tractor, but little bits of information like these make it easier if anything ever goes wrong.

If I have to take it to a local mechanic for work, it would be nice, and quicker, to find some local parts if possible that would work. Knowing which specific parts to ask for makes it even easier.

Thanks for the advice. Keep it coming if anyone knows more.
