Tractor
2013 John Deere 3320 Cab
went to the dealer to drive my 2320 (waiting on loader and 62D to come in) and I notice when I kill the motor the whole front end shakes when it dies...is this just the nature of a diesel tractor or should I be worried.....remember guys this is my first tractor so don't laugh.....:D

Diesels have a lot of compression and that may be the shake you experience.

It's a three cylinder diesel in a relatively light frame, expect it.

thanks guys...I noticed when I killed it that it would shake the whole hood and front end and didn't know if it was just the nature of the beast or not....starting it shaked the front hood a little but killing it was worse...:)

Find another tractor and try it out. The other thing is that it might not be as pronounced when the engine breaks in. Those little Yanmar's are great engines and just about bullet proof.

maybe when starting one cylinder doesn't catch. And when stopping, one cylinder begins to diesel (continues to run).
I would have that looked into by a mechanic.

don't think its continuing to run...I think it maybe normal for a diesel and im just not use to it since this is my first one....:) .....

/ 2320 question #9
It's normal...diesels are so heavy, with such high compression, making so much torque, that they've shook or shifted everything that I've ever seen a diesel started in. The only thing I would do would be what Rob suggested, check another tractor of the same model and see how it reacts.

It's not that far off, it's still a three cylinder Yanmar with a few more horses and more weight. You should get a feel what diesels are about from it. Don't go to the 4x20 series, they are Deere engines, not Yanmars and 4 bangers.

Since you posted I have been watching my starting and shutdown of my 2320. I would describe it a shudder not unlike I get when I start my lawn mower or car.

/ 2320 question #13
I have an X495 (3 cyl. diesel) and it has (and always has had) a really noticeable "shudder" when I shut it off. I also had a Yanmar 27hp 3 cyl diesel, but it shut down very smoothly.

I just got a new 2520, and it also shuts down very smoothly. (at least in comparison to the 495)

The 2520 motor has "direct fuel injection", and the 2320 is indirect, as is my X495. I'm sure no expert, but I'm thinking that might have something to do with it. Odd that my Yanmar didn't shudder though.

You also have to consider tractor weight because it acts as a buffer. Think about an engine mounted on a block of wood. when you shut it down you notice it much more than if it was attached to the side of the building. The 2520 has more weight than the 2320. The lighter the tractor the more noticeable the engine vibration is with all other factors being equal.
