What is your judgement of using a 2410 w/60" mid-mount mower & turf tires on a residential lawn? Too heavy? Can I anticipate ruts and turf damage? Deck rests on wheels rather than suspended-will this also create ruts on turns? I have lots of trees on 6 acre property. 2400/10 owners, would you purchase again? Any truth to the Bi-speed front end problems on 2410? Nearing a decision soon and I really need your help to select right size. Thanks in advance.

Barkley,

Can't comment on the mid-mount mower, but I do have a B2410HSD (no bi-steer) with turf tires and a 60" Woods rear discharge finish mower. I mowed with this setup for the first time this past weekend and I would say that it exceeded my expectations.

Nope, not if your lawn is anything like mine. Because I was chomping at the bit to do some work in the woods in back of our lot I drove my tractor w/loader and tiller across the lawn even before all of the snow was gone (i.e., at it's wettest). The tractor did not leave any ruts or hardly any marks. The only time I got myself into trouble is when I had to travel across the lawn with a bucket full of rocks - the front tires did leave some impressions, but I plan on correcting this with additional ballast in the rear. Also, if it makes you feel any better, there are people on TBN who finish mow with much heavier tractors (B2910, TC35, 4300, etc.) and it seems to work for them.

I believe that Cowboydoc mentioned someone he knows who has had problems with it. My feeling is why bother with the bi-speed? With the power steering I think the maneuverability is fine without it.

Barkley, I also mowed the yard for the first time this last weekend. B2910, 6' mid mount mower deck, turf tires. After pulling a 1000# wood chipper across the still wet yard earlier this spring (and causing ruts /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif), I was concerned about tire ruts, but no problem at all with that /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. The only problem I noticed is that in very tight turns, the front tires scratched the grass off a few places, but I had that problem with my old JD garden tractor.

I was also a bit worried about the wheels on the deck digging into the grass, but I avoided that by setting the height of the cut, then setting the depth stop so the deck wheels just barley touched the surface. No problems and a great cut! Maybe you should consider a B2910 with a 6' mower deck /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Barkley,

I have a B2400 w/60" MM mower and turfs. The only time I get turf damage is when the ground is very wet or I nail the HST pedal too hard from a stop. The tires are wide enough to distribute the weight.

The wheels on the deck are gage wheels and are supposed to ride on the ground. Of course, in the rougher areas, I raise the deck up to a safer height.

I have 3 acres and a fair amount of trees. Takes me about an hour and half normally, an hour and fifteen minutes if I push it. A ZTR would be faster but I wanted the versatility of the compact.

Don't have bi-speed, but I don't remember hearing any problems associated with it.

Definitely would buy again, but would get a loader at the same time.
