I have this 70's IH tractor but can not figure how to lock both rear wheels so both will drive instead of just one spinning. I've looked on both sides of the trans case for a lever that you could possibly push with your foot but there is none. What am I missing? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I am not familiar with that machine, but I don't think a differential lock is something you'll commonly find on a 2 wd tractor. I've never seen one.

I have no idea about how much experience you have driving tractors, so if the following is something you think everyone knows, forgive me. A lot of people new to tractors do not know about a feature on most of them called turning brakes or steering brakes. You likely have two brake pedals connected by a lever or something. Try separating the pedals and just lightly braking the wheel that's spinning.
That should transfer your power to the other wheel and you'll go merrily on your way. When you get some practice with the things you'll find you can "walk" your way through some pretty sticky situations by moving one side and then the other. On more solid ground you can pivot the tractor around one rear wheel almost like a ZTR mower or skid steer. Again, if you're familiar with the brakes, I'm sorry about talking to you like you're a newcomer to the wonderful world of tractors. If you are new to tractors, welcome. It gets addictive.

Tried the ind brake pedals but just doesn't get it done. I also have a 2WD Ford that has a pedal or lever that you push down with your right foot to lock the diff.

Thanks Joe.

I have been on several large tractors that have a differential lock for the rear wheels so it's a pretty common feature even on 2WD tractors. At my Grandparents' farm there is a Bolens CUT with a 60" deck that has this feature, it's just a pedal down by high/low range transmission shifter. I think I remember seeing one on the 360 LONG tractor they have too. I can't remember if my uncle's Allis tractors have it or not, he's got a 170, 185, and a 7000. I haven't played with the larger IH tractors, mainly smaller stuff like the older Model A,B, and C series Farmalls.

I agree wheel braking will usually get you out of most sticky situations, but it's also nice to have differential lock too. I would think most large tractors have it.

There should be one some where on it. It could be a pedal or a lever or even a large rod that pulls out.. Most all 2-wheel drive tractors have had differential lock starting way back.
What we call 4-wheel drive tractors are really two-wheel drive with front wheel assist.

I have an International 250A which I believe is similar. Its a 60 hp hydro and has a diff lock.It is on the right side and comes out of the rear wheel fender near the floorboard. If you crawl under the tractor look at the rear end there should be some type of rod that actuates a lever that goes into the rear diff.

Thanks for the reply, but this IH, I think, is considered an industrial series because it does not have a PTO. It's actually a backhoe with a FEL and everything is hydraulic. If anyone knows of another site to post this on I would appreciate it. I did a little digging on the Case IH site but had no luck.
