Tractor
Mahindra 2615hst
My new 2415HST got delivered to me the other day, today was the first time I got to use it. The job for the day was to pull the 48" brush hog..... to say the least I was unimpressed.

Not that long ago I had a 2615HST and sold it. I was lead to believe that the 2415 was the same engine in a smaller chassis thus believed the power would be the same, which did not appear to be the case.

The 2415 really struggled today with pulling the hog engaged up hills which the 2615 had no issues with.

It is possible there is a set-up problem with the tractor, which I will research, but right now I am beyond unimpressed and very concerned with the purchase.

If anyone has any experience, with the same two tractors I would love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Rick

Did you read the specs on the Mahindra website? I just pulled them up. Is the engine the same for both: Yes and NO. Yes, its the same basic engine, however the 2615 turns up an additional 100 rpm to make an additional 3 or so HP at the PTO. Did you do "due diligence" in your research before you became unimpressed???

Actually "Bob" I discussed the purchase with someone who I believes knows more about the tractors than you or I. He is on this board and I trust his statement.

My post was not a slam on the tractor, it was just stating the fact.

What I was informed was that it is the same engine, rated at a different RPM, thus the different rating. What that tells me is if you run the engine at the same RPM, you should get like power.

Just so you know, I found your post offensive as if to state "the moron got what he deserved since he did not research it properly". While I might be a moron, I felt I did appropriate research.

The post was a request for thoughts on what I (or the dealer who prepped the tractor) might have done, or can do to get better results.

So with what you have posted, if it is the same engine, how do I get that extra 100 rpm to turn the same power. It can only be two things, fuel and/or air delivery to the engine.

Once again, any thoughts for what I might be able to do to overcome this issue would be appreciated.

There are a couple of things I love about the tractor. First the footprint make the tractor easier to maneuver. My 5 acres has small hills and lots of trees, the 2615 was not able to move through the trees as easily as the 2415 (thus why I wanted the smaller tractor). It is easier to get on and off off, I have to be real, we have a 5 year old and she plays on things. Last summer she got on and took a real bad tumble off the 2615, the 2415 does not pose the same issue (yes we have told her to not play on the equipment, but that is like saying, "hey honey look at the nice red toy, go play on it)

I want to like the tractor, just need a little more power to be satisfied.

I would think there would be some adjustment on the injector pump. I would imagine any adjustment done by anyone other than the dealer might have warranty issues. There has got to be more to this than just 100 rpms.
Any chance someone from the dealership can come out and observe your usage and then comment?

Just checked the specs on Mahindra's site. I noticed the 2615HST has three ranges while the 2415 has only two. Were you in low range?

Weight is also a factor I would consider.

The 2615 HST weighs 2458#.
The 2415 HST weighs 1819#.

That's a weight loss of almost 640 lbs.

The weight on the 2415 HST is actually the exact same weight as a 2015G. Another words you stepped down to a little on horsepower and a lot on weight.

I must ask, is there any reason in particular that you stepped down to a smaller tractor?

Also when you say it "struggled" what exactly do you mean?

It had trouble going up a hill while the brush hog was engaged. A hill that the 2615HST had no issues with.

Exactly what was pointed out was why I felt the 2415 would better suite my needs weight and footprint.

The 2615 has 90 pounds per hp, the 2415 has 75 pounds per hp. Weight to power is a very significant indication of performance. Since less power is needed to move the weight of the tractor, the performance should be better when engaged in tasks that do not require weight as an offsetting factor.

The only reason I got rid of the 2615 was that we were going to sell the place on 5 acres, sold it, then the new wife spent a few weekends at the house and loved it, thus we kept it and I was short one tractor (but had a nice shiny new Lotus Exige in the garage).

I was in low, which is a really really slow gear. The 2615HST I used to do the same work in M, which got the job done much faster.

Once again, I am going to spend more time on the tractor tomorrow to ensure that I am getting the most out of it. I do believe over time the tractor and I will become one and work in complete harmony.

First, I don't think I'll wring my hands and say I'm sorry if you didn't like the response I gave you. I was simply trying to help you. You said you believe you spoke with someone that you believe knows more about tractors than "you or I" (You can make that statement aobut yourself but don't involve me...) I try to deal in facts rather than emotion (beliefs). That's why I immediately went to Mahindra website and pulled up the specs...As far as your other statement that you were offended that I actually looked it up, I usually get what I deserve, don't you??? I don't "believe" I can help you anymore, but I hope your knowledgeable friends can.... BobG in VA

Rick,

I ran a 2415HST last weekend with a 48" heavy tiller sunk all the way as deep as it could go and the engine never even grunted. I was on flat ground, but it was a piece of cake. Have your dealer put it on a dyno and make sure it is putting out. I've ran a 60" flail mower nicely behind a 2415HST with no power issues, again on flat land. A 48" rotary should be easy work if you are just mowing weeds/grass, etc.
