I have had this issue for some time but have just limped it along…all safety switches (Clutch, PTO and Brake ) are firmly plugged in and the battery is kept on a trickle charger( tender).. my starting procedure is the same, turn key on an dthe fuel pump lightly clicks while the glow plug heats up( the light comes on ), once the light goes off I turn the key to the right…20% of the time it catches, turns over and fires up…the rest of the time when I turn the key to the right I hear a CLICK from what seems to be the the right side of the engine and it doesn’t turn over. If I just relax the key without turning it to full vertacle OFF position and then turn it on again, it will CLICK as if trying to engage but still it doesn’t turn over…in rapid sequence I will turn it back on/off and sometimes it will turn over after the 4th click/wiggle and sometimes the 20th and sometimes it wont catch at all… dash lights come on and all of that, but wont start..battery is less than a year old
I clean the battery posts and the negative ground at the battery and the ground connection to the frame on the left side of the engine …and sometimes it seems to fix it so that it turns over but sometimes not.
The last event I thought that maybe the contacts at the solenoid needed scuffing so I disconnected the 2 red and 2 black wires ( red and black post wires and red and black spade connections to solinoid) gave them a scuff and then tried to start it…nothing …..this time not even the fuel pump nor the the dash lights came on…DEAD…Prior to the solinoid scuffing, I did Tap lightly on the copper battery terminal cable/clamp on the positive side so as to insure that it was firmly attached as I cant tighten the clamp screw without mayor surgery to the tightening screw…
If I had to try to take it to the Dealer I would have to load it onto a trailer. the bucket is down and I suspect I will have to disconnect and remove the it to wench it ona trailer….will the tractor roll or will will I have to skid it onto the trailer?\
It has 232 hours and has been doing this since 80 hours…..I think the guy we bought it from was having this problem as well
