My 2420D just started pumping hydraulic oil out of the steering column just under the steering wheel. Went through my e-bay "classic" manuals cd but couldn't find anything on power steering. Anyone have some reference out there for factory power steering? Hate to tear into it blind. Thanks, Bill.

Does it have a steering box as in power assisted steering or is it remote steering with only hydraulic lines running to the steering cylinder. If its remote steering its more than likely a seal blown and a new one can be put into place. If its a remote you cna run it by the hydrauilics shop and get it fixed.

It does have a power assisted steering gear box. I do have the power assist portion off the steering gear. The gear itself is the recirculating ball type, will be interesting getting all the balls back in place. Looks like liberal application of grease to hold the balls should work. I need to build a spanner tool to screw the cover off the assist unit. Based on the design it appears to have o-rings for shaft seals. Other problem I see is that the steering gear shaft has a flex coupler where it attaches to the assist unit with about a quarter turn of play in it. Also need the pull handle assembly that kills the engine, definite lash up by previous owner. Bill

It sounds like a steering box i fixed on an old TCM loader that had a powere asisted box that ran a control valve. I dont beleive there that bad from memory the orings go in easy, the only problem on the TCM was one was a plastic or hard rubber like a cylinder packing i put it in boiling water and then put in tionposition whilelst it was pliable. Most things with a Yanmar are simple to repair, may be a simple little job or may be a tough one. Take care Taylor Lambert

Quick update on the solution. The shaft coming out of the top of the power assist was pitted beyond use. There was a standard oil seal in the top of the assembly. I had the shaft ground down 1 mm and purchased a metric oil seal to the new dimensions.
