Nice shed, beancounter!

What is the size of angle steel top & bottom chords used in your trusses?

Also, did any of your 6X6 posts twist after you installed them?

Thanks, Guy

Batter boards should be placed about a foot and a half away on both sides from the corner.
Make sure the top of the boards (height) are the same on all four corners. I did this by site. I guess you could use a string level or transit.

I have seen several comments about having trouble keeping the overall dimensions when they adjust for diagonal. You must move both strings the same distance. ??? Mine was 24x50 and both 24 and 50 were dead on but the diagonal dimension was off around 8". I moved both lines on the left sidedown around 4". I was then with about an inch. Couple more slight adjustments and it was exact. The 50' distance never changed because if I moved one line a 1/4 inch then the other line was moved the same distance.

Proper use of a transit or site leveler would correct this issue. This involves use of the plum bob. The site leveler will set the height of all batter boards, string locations, etc. This is why the site leveler has degrees of the base of the transit unit.

Not saying that you didn't do it right gabeancounter but a lot of people have no clue how a site leveler or builders leveler works.

Sorry for the delay. The wife purchased a new front load washer and dryer set. I told her I was not paying all the extra money for pedestals soI had to get this done. Just need to add the handles.

Thanks for the input. I am looking for a similar size building 24x48x14. The base price for the kit is $5170 on the web site. I want to add overhangs and would want to go to 10'OC trusses also. What did you end up paying? Thanks.

I assume this price is for the enclosed version? If you want 10'oc then you will be 24x50x14? I think you can get close to 20% off list price. I paid $3k even for the open kit. All items to enclose are seperate. By the time I am finished with two loads of stone , trim , including the labor for setting the roof and trusses I will have $6k in it.

Nice shed, beancounter!

Nope, I was set on making laminated post but Armour metals talked me out of it. I hope they don't try to twist. Not worried about the enlcosed ones but the three exposed post.

I would say the angle is something like 2x2 1/8". Not really sure. Some of the other crossing pieces are a little smaller.
Thanks Paul

Thanks for the info on trusses & posts, Paul.
BTW, judging from the time and effort that went into your beautiful pedestal, you definitely have a secure future in custom cabinetry, if ever they run out of beans. Guy

Hello Beancounter. I bought some trusses from an outfit out of Culman Al. and they were real bad looking. The trusses looked like they were burnt and they weren't straight. Then about 3 months ago I bought a pole barn kit from Armour Metals and had them come out and put it up. They did it in 2 days. It was a 30x40x12.Their trusses were real nice looking. Now I'm considering closing it in and i like the way you did yours. How much time did it take you actual working hours to enclose it? P.s Armour metals gave me a good deal too not quite as good as yours but I checked about 10 places ( I know I'm cheap) and they were 15% better than the rest. Plus i feel like i got more for my money. Their trim covers all the fascia and gives it a real nice look. I think their prices are so good because they make the metal and trusses right there. Their whole building was built out of steel trusses. it was really nice. I met the owner and he is real laid back. it only took a week to get my building. Took longer to clear my site. I'd like to post some pictures of my barn and progress on here. i really enjoyed your posts. i hope to here back from you. I wish it was done so I could take it easy this winter. Oh well
