$250 to install a water heater...........??????????

Up until a couple years ago city picked up tires, small propane tanks, and electrical appliances.
Now the refuse fridges and freezers as they quote 'freon' as the reason and say box stores will pickup.
Tires mounted they refuse.
TV they say the store will accept them on trade in.

As the snow melts we are finding all sorts of trash (rims, TV's etc etc) in vacant lots and hidden in various snow banks.

While they want to look eko friendly, the cities only want what can be converted to cash.

A buddy has a storage facility. The city will not accept any trash from him but he still has to pay the collection fees. Go figure.

My water heater went south after 24 years and I easily replaced it (electric). I took the old one out, rolled it into the tractor bucket, drove it to my own disposal site, crushed and buried it. End of story.

And at nineteen years old, I knew how to replace a water tank.

Me too.

A good friend of mine has a son thats 19. So dumb he wouldn't know where to start if he had to change a hot water heater.

But he is smart enough to not jump to conclusions without all the facts. Maybe because of that, he already has $100k+ job offers from major airlines for internet security waiting when he graduates in a couple years.

Guess nobody knows everything ;)

You have to watch us country people who own tractors. We have somewhat of an independent mind set when it comes to taking care of problems when they arise.

OK.........Exactly 43 minutes for the total replacement.............YES I know how and have done the work before several times; but I just didn't want to fool with it........But golly....$250 for just coming out here and I would already have it drained and ready to go..............For me, plumbing is kinda like getting together with my 4th ex-wife......I know how to do it quite well butttttt.......something always goes wrong on down the line and causes more headaches than when I started.

The flex tubing, copper, had broken from my house keeper, who breaks most anything she touches, leaned on them to get something behind the heater over a couple year period................So.....Yes, the heater was 22 years old and mud came out the bottom from the iron in the well.........Had replaced the anodes twice before so just decided it was time for a new one.......

SOOOO.....called my hired hand, went to home depot......got the few parts and WAHFREAKING WHA..........done.........God bless......Dennis

Great job. I was just going to offer that when I had trouble with my "pop-off valve," the problem was a bad expansion tank. This was for a hot water tank of a boiler tho, not an electric heater. Sounds like you got your money's worth out of your old heater.

I did pay $1000 bucks to replace an entire boiler block a few years ago, the block was cracked and under warranty. The labor wasn't.

A THIRTY EIGHT GALLON electric water heater....????? Have never seen one other than the 50 gallon and larger sizes. Travel time figures into a job and being a former self-employed carpenter I don't begrudge anybody from charging for that.

With that said, an electric is easier to replace because they don't have to mess around with the gas connections and the vent a gas heater requires. Depending on how hard it is to access a heater, they may have to charge extra for time to remove and replace the old one. Will they drain the old heater, and bleed the plumbing of air for that cost? So many variables involved....

Good point, he has to wait for it to drain. Time is money. Might be a little high, but not a lot.

But that $1750 job makes my blood boil, & I don't even know her.
