A well-written letter to someone like, say, the vice president of sales, for John Deere works WONDERS. They really do listen to their customers, but apparently, the dealers don't always have the authority needed to make certain things right...

Would you happen to have an email address for this person?

"Would you happen to have an email address for this person?"

I do not have an email address. I sent my letter by mail to the address listed on the John Deere "Dealer Experience" questionaire (which is the survey they send you after you buy something from them). The mailing address was:

P.O. Box 656
Farmington, MO 63640-9902

Since this is a MO address, it may just be for the region that I am located in. Correspondence in other areas may need to go somewhere else.

Saga continues. I called Deere to see if the dealer had indeed opened a DTAC. They did not.

So, now the Deere customer service representative has had to open a DTAC and someone from Deere will be calling me in the next two days according to her.

I guess what amazes me is how unhelpful this 'gold' dealer's service department is. Using the "widen the tires" excuse is kind of simplistic. It almost makes buying a new tractor for the dealer support rather worthless.

Now that your situation has been brought to the attention of "corporate" I'll bet you get some action.

I sure agree, it shouldn't have to come to that.

Best of luck.

Deere now says that the territory manager will make the decision with the dealer. Not sure if this is good news as the dealer has been rather unhelpful.

Hello sneaky
I hope you get something positive out of this. I've yet to read where JD footed the entire bill for replacing the arms on an out of warranty tractor:(

Still nothing from Deere or the dealer. Called back yesterday to talk with customer service person named Hope. She is on vacation. Called again to find someone else to talk to, got put on hold for about a 1/2 hour and finally hung up.

Looks like Deere is pretty useless at this point. The dealer, Barnett Implements of Chehailas, WA, has proven to be good at taking money but lousy at attempting to even find a solution that does not involve the word 'no'.

I had ordered another $700 or so in implements and had to cancel as I wanted to see how they would handle this scenario. Was going to purchase another $1k this summer, but no way. If the economy tanks much further in Lewis County they'll be done soon. Stupid how a service manager can negate future sales by being a hard ***.

Finally got Hope to respond. Interesting that the dealer and JD territory sales responded to the case notes as having taken care of the problem, which they did not.

Today, the territory sales person named Adam Ryan called. He offered the fix of 3/4" wheel spacers a $60 value that Deere is willing to shoulder the burden.

The other option is he will take the $60 off of the cost of draft arms. I reminded him that the draft arms are $660. He will now up that to 25% off for a savings of $165.

Question I have is whether the wheel spacers will work well or not. Anyone have experience with this?

That's the first I've heard of wheel spacers being available for the 2520. I'm sure they would help, but I think the new-style draft arms would be better. Might be worth a try if they're free, and would give a little more stability to boot.

How much sway is there in the 3PH, and have you adjusted it properly? With the new style arms, there should be no contact with the tires at all. Also, do you have the rear wheels set in the wide offset (valve stems on the inside)?

I am again trying my new dealer to fix my 2520 rubbing problem. bought it new in 2006 and out of warrenty with only 85 hours on it. I have not used the tractor much of the years but that has changed since now I have 7 acres after a move across country, and don't want to destroy the R4's. My dealer is S. J. BLACK & SON, INC. 2324 CONCORD HWY MONROE,NC 28110. They are noce folks so far, know and have experience with the issue. They contacted the region person and will get back to me.
I hope i don't go orange over this only issue with the 2520 which I think is a great machine. I wil post updates.

Hi Scott and welcome to TBN:)
Sorry to hear about your dilemma. It would be nice if JD picked up the whole tab,but I think because of the year,it would be more like meeting you halfway,or nothing at all.:(
Hope I'm wrong, but usually that is the case.

I have a 2006 2520 which of course my tractor is beyond any warranty. My local JD dealer is like many others - useless. I don't want to spend that kind of money for new a new style arm either. I have a generic rear snow blower and the arms rub when it is installed. I have written John Deere several times and you just get the run around. When it comes time to replace this tractor based on how I have been treated it won't be another JD.

My 2006 2520 with 85 hours goes to the dealer tomorrow to verify the rear tire rubbing issue with them. This is after i spoke with the regional service manager. I do not want to move the tire out and prefer to always have them in the narrow position. I will post the next event in this sad design saga. My tractor should be recalled.

Scott,

Good luck. I originally started this thread as the problem was horrible. I ended up buying the new style arms from a different dealer that worked with me on the price and got the regional manager involved. It's been a while but I think we split the cost. Deere covered 50%.

It took me 5 minutes to change them and problem was solved...

Hopefully you have better luck with your dealer.

Well, here is my final situation. After several discussions with the territory rep and my dealer, Deere funded my dealer to install the new arms, picked up the tab for one arm, and charged me for the 2nd arm at dealer cost + tax. Am I happy? Yes, but not 100%. While they did me good on this, I believe quality should come first and my serial number 2520 should have been recalled for this design issue. So I will stay green for now. Scott.

Glad to see your problem was taken care of............sort of.
Don't know why they (JD) don't do what the car makers do. If the problem existed 5 years ago, then every single tractor with the old arms should have been corrected at JD's expense.

Don't thiink I am too far afield to ask just how does Deere go about fixing issues like these?

It almost sounds like unless you have brought a tractor into the dealer with a problem you don't get notified.
