2520-62D belt came off

I was mowing today and the blades quit. The belt came off .
When I mow I run the engine at 2000-2100 rpm. Should I set the rpm to the 540 that is indicated on the tach?

Here is a couple of pictures, first is what I was mowing, second and third the deck, is there too much grass on the deck? The lawn was about 6-8" and damp. After I get done mowing I generally use the air compressor to blow all of the grass off. I installed the belt, finished mowing everything was ok.

47chevy - My wife was mowing yesterday and the belt on our 62D ripped right in half and was jambed in the pulleys. The grass she was mowing was about 8" - 12" of grass but she had the deck up as high as it could be and running in low. So I would say, she was cutting about 5-6 inches of grass. We usually run ours at 2400 RPMs. I wonder if cutting too much grass puts a strain on the belt??

Mowing very thick or tall grass can cause the belt to slip, but I don't think it would cause it snap. Sounds like it was just a fluke with the belt coming off. If it keeps happening repeatedly than I would start to wonder.

Yes, you should run at the proper PTO RPM, when the rear is at 540-then the front is at 2100 which is what the deck is designed to run at for proper blade tip speed and a quality cut.

Especially important when mowing in tall, heavy and wet grass conditions. Those are ALL factors that can put a strain on the working components of your deck system.
