Are you saying, by start from scratch, that you are leveling side to side also, or did you back off the jam nuts, screw them on as suggested 5/8 from top and start adjusting from there. I believe the back is actually fixed except for side to side. Am I not seeing your directions clearly?

Yup, started from scratch with the front to back adjustment using the manual. Then did the side to side and ended up dead-on with both (couldn't beleive it). Yes, the back is fixed, but it also swings based upon the front adjustment, so it is not as simple as just up & down. Definately get the $5 JD leveling tool. Makes it a snap to measure.

Cub has a nice deck leveling tool now also. Your not trying to adjust front/rear with the deck all the way up are you? If so the deck may be hitting the up-stop bracket near the front. We level all ours in the #3 or 4 position. Also, is there room to remove the two 1/2 nuts and put a small piece of pipe over the threads and re-install nuts, this would give you more adjustment. Or stack a bunch of washers instead of piece of pipe?

You know, the pipe over the front lift arm might do the trick. I went to the dealer the other day to get something for my other old bruch cutting unit. I talked to him about the adjustment and we actually went to the yard and looked at several 2500 units. All have the same lift arm regardless of the deck size. Amazing. Each had the adjustment nuts almost bottomed out right from the factory. Each of the decks were front tilted and even he was surprised. He suggested adding more threads so the nuts would take up more of the under sling..the pipe idea may cancel out the need to thread more.

Somewhere, I think CUB screwed the pup on this one. I also find the oil drain plug location and system a royal screw up as well. They should have drilled a hole in the frame and used a piece of pipe with a common cap.

This just proves the point. Engineers most likely don't cut their own lawns or service their own units:D .
