My 2544, now with 13 hours on the clock, diesels when I shut it off. It's done it pretty much since new. I'm sure it doesn't hurt anything, but it sure sounds bad. You would think it's some old 1974 Dodge Dart or something...
I usually let it idle down for a few seconds then turn it off. It is worse if it's shut off just after disengaging the blades, due to the engine being hotter.
Any tricks to get it to shut off smoothly? Let it run at high idle before shutting down? Low idle longer? Premium gas?
Other than that, it runs like the proverbial Swiss watch. It's really a treat to mow with. It eats through thick tall grass like it wasn't there and discharges it so far it just blends in with no clumps. Just like my trusty 2-cycle Lawn Boy Gold model.
