2550 Melting hood!

I wonder how much money CC has lost by replacing all these plastic hoods? I would guess that any money they tried to save has been spent on warranty replacements.
Is there any type of plastic out there that has some sort of heat resistance? I think they would be better to go back to a metal or fiber glass design.

It's too bad that this is even an issue with a machine of this quality!

I am glad mine has the old 3 piece metal hood.

It's not just the cost of the hood, it's the warranty labor which is probably even more costly. The whole thing seem to be a work in progress. Check the part number on the heatshield for instance. They're up to a C sufix. Which means it's the 4th version of that part. No letter, A,B, and C.

Well, I'm up to 23 hours on my 2554 and so far, so good, no melting problems, not even warpage. I have noticed the flywheel screen, {and mentioned it to my dealer to pass it on} picks up a lot of clippings and I make sure to reach in there and just rub it off with my hand every time I shut 'er down. EVERY time. A lot of it is all about awareness. It beats the dickens out of every other machine I've owned. I'm well pleased with it. Just my $.02.
