I need some suggestions. I'm having an issue with my 2555. It won't start but the behavior is pretty weird. When you turn the key to on, I can hear relays under the hood clicking on/off rhythmically. One is the inlet air heater. The other I can't find. It is at the side of the engine somewhere (left if you are in the seat). The gauges will also freak out when I go to crank the engine. I've had it catch but not turn over. I can hear the big solenoid that engages the starter. After that if I return the key to the off position the gauges will return to zero but jump around for about 10 seconds or so before going still. I think its some sort of short. It isn't a new problem but I haven't had any luck finding a solution. It seems to occur after a heavy rain with wind. The tractor mostly sits outside. I think water is being blown into something.
I've opened as many connectors as I can find that I can get open and checked for water. There were a couple with water on a rubber gasket but nothing on the contacts. I've put dialectic grease in all of them. In the past if I give it a day or two, I was able to get it started. Usually I'd have to recharge the battery. I have another post here from some time ago which is related. I assumed it was user error and replaced the battery. I also replaced the battery terminals and coated them with a corrosion preventor. We've had a week of rain here and there hasn't been much dry time. I have the hood up and the side panels off today hoping that will do it.
I took the ignition switch out and examined it. It passed a continuity test but I guess that isn't saying much. It doesn't look like you can open it without breaking it. I've looked at fuses and they seem fine including the big ones up front. Someone had mentioned in a post here for a 2555 cab (mine isn't a cab) the firewall connectors. They are hard to get at but I did manage to get them off. They seemed dry. Due to their location I couldn't get a good look. I've looked at the wiring but it is all wrapped in plastic conduit so I can't really see much. No apparent damage anywhere.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
