2615 starting problems.

I have a 2015 it is about 2 years old. The dealer called me told me there was a service bulletin for cold weather operations. They came to house installed new glowplugs and a new glowplug relay. It starts at 10 degrees with one cycle of the glowplugs. It might only be running on 1 cylinder but catches. I do notice if battery is weak the glow plug relay will not pick up. In winter I run tractor once every week or two to keep battery charged. I have considered solar charger just never got around to getting one.

My 2015 is just about a year old. As far as I know, it has the same basic electrical and engine system as the 2615's.

Mine obviously came with the newer glow plugs and longer timer -- at least 15 seconds. Mine has started without any problems down to +2 degrees F, and several days at about +6. It takes about 15 to 30 seconds of rough idling and smoking below about 15 degrees, but it sure starts well for a diesel.

To keep the new ultra low sulfer diesel from jelling, I do add a few ounces of TSC's cetane booster to my 5 gallon fuel cans when I fill them.

Knute m,

That is exactly what I have on my 2015. I guess that is how deisels start in the winter time. It does start though!!

Galen, I checked the resistance on my glow plugs and all show ok. Thanks for the help. Rough idling is the key word that describes what I have been trying to say.

Update on my starting problem. I tried cycling the glow plugs four times on saturday morning and it still would not start. I tried after lunch when it was 50 degrees and it started and ran fine. On sunday I ohmed the glow plugs and found that the number one glow plug had a reading of 154.00 and the other two were .14. I called the dealer on monday and I am bringing the tractor in this saturday for them to replace the glow plugs. He would not come to my house to replace the plugs because he said service calls were not covered under warranty. I hope it is warm enough this saturday to get it started so I can loaded it up on the trailer.

Say Butch, what is your truck and trailer setup? Is it ideal? I'd like to tow my 2615 some day.

I have 7000 pound two axle trailer and a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. My trailblazer will pull my tractor but it is at the max. limit of 5400 pounds towing capacity. For this 30 mile trip to Franklin, North Carolina my neighbor and friend will pull it with his 2500 GMC Duramax diesel crew cab truck. It pulls it like it isn't even there.

If you need one to pull your tractor we have three in stock at work and I am sure we could deliver it to you.

Final update

I spoke to my dealer today and my tractor is ready to be picked up.. The glow plugs were bad and they were replaced, the bad new was they were not covered under warranty. I was told they are considered a electrical item and they are covered only for one year, not three years.
The good news is they fixed my loader valve by adjusting it. My bucket would rise up all by itself while I was driving around. I posted this problem months ago and a dealer tried to help me but I never could find where to adjust the joy stick.

I own a 2615 and yesturday it was -4 here. I have the 15 sec. timer and it started after I cycled the plugs twice. It was knocking and making all kinds of noise but smoothed out after it ran for a few seconds. Seems like the 15 series are cold blooded machines.

Not to get off the subject, but what tempature does yor machine run at? When I was out plowing in the -4 degree weather, my tempature gauge was in the green. I was surprised to see it there. My friend has a 2615 hydro and he said that his usually stays in the yellow? I don't know if that is a good thing though.

My 2615 always runs in the green after it warms up.
Today it was 70 degrees here in Ga.

At below zero, any diesel will knock unless you have the ability to warm the whole block.

I did not know that. It smoked a lot too. From reading other posts, I guess it's normal as well.
Getting used to a non gas engine has taken some time.

Sorry for the late response on getting an update.

You guys were right on the money with the bad glow plugs. Two were completly open and the third was 275 ohms. The dealer came through with replacements for me and also the extended timer. He supplied the parts, I supplied the labor. She starts great now. An absolute suggestion for anyone having cold-start issues.

I know it's off post, but does anyone have any experience adding aux hydraulic ports to the rear along with the lever on a 2615? Costs for parts? or suggestions?

Also sorry & kinda late, but she didn't act up until after the warm weather arrived this spring. Tuned over 240+ hours and suddenly no luck on cool mornings! The next few days it worked to cycle the switch 6 or more times, but then - nothing. So I had to park her facing south & let the sun do the job while I got my dealer on top of it. Once again, the key to happy tractor owning has turned out to be having a great dealer! He had no prior awareness of this as a 2615 issue, but within 2 days had the parts on order & approval to do the job under warranty. I hauled it in and it took less than 45 minutes.

Thank goodness I didn't give up on Mahindra just because my nearest dealer blew me off & made a bad impression... There are plenty of good guys still out there.

I realize this is an old thread but I have worked on diesels for a long time and one thing that is sticking out in my mind is that this 2615 I have just cranks slow. It has been very hard to start at anything less then 40 degrees and from my experience it is due to it cranking a tad slow. My diesel van used to have that problem. I added a 3rd battery and that problem went away. I need to be moving snow right now and I cant get it to start. I havent checked the glow plugs yet but was wondering if there was a starter update for these tractors. If not i'm tempted to take it off and have it custom wound though I am sure that would be spendy. perhaps it was bad from the beginning. what does a new starter run?

To my knowledge there has not been a starter update. There has been an update for the glow plugs, and the timer. The original timer was only 3 seconds long. The new one is 10 seconds. The upgrade for the timer and plugs is about $200.00 My 2615 has only cranked slow when the battery was on its way out.

I use the KAT's model 14500.

George 2615, it has been nearly 7 years since you posted on the KAT's model 14500; how is it holding up?
I found a new-one at a parts house for $31.

Thanks

Mines still working fine. I've only used it a few times since I replaced my glow plugs and timer but have plugged it in and it's still heating the coolant to about 140 deg. F

Its a 2007 model and the glow plug timer is at least 10 seconds.
definitely not fast. As to the plugs I believe they are good but I would have to pull the bar to check for sure. Replacing the battery did not make any difference for me. The battery tests good. The connections are good. Really need to fix this as it lets you down when you need it most. had a parent of our daycare get stuck in the driveway because I couldn't get it started. That was fun. :) Anyone got a price on a starter?

Ebay has starters for 2615 from $123-165.00
Does your starter crank faster when you try jumping it with a charger or jumper cables?
You have the long timer. That's the one I installed on my 04 2615. The early models had a short timer.
Do you have a block heater or inline lower hose heater? If not it may be time to get one. The inline lower hose heaters can be installed in less than an hour. You'd be amazed how fast it starts when the coolant temp is 140 deg.
