I have a 2615 4 x4 Hydrostat. It only has a little over 200 hrs. I noticed today while mowing, the steering wheel seemed to have slack. The way I noticed it was the position of the steering knob. When going straight it would be in the 5 o'clock position. After making a hard turn and going straight again the knob would be in 12 o'clock position. Making another hard turn and it would be in another position while going straight. I thought maybe the wheel was not tight, but that does not seem to be the case. I turned the engine off and turned the steering wheel slowly and the steering wheel would give without the front wheels turning. Does anybody know if this is normal?? It drives and handles just fine, just bugs me the steering wheel is different position after each turn.

My 2615 has 750 hours and I never noticed. I will notice when I mow this week.

This is totally normal - nothing to worry about. It is not the same as a car.

Tractors have a fully hydraulic steering system, this is normal. The steering wheel won't ever stay in "alignment".
