2615 Ticking sound

I'd agree with Lawall's.....we've sold a lot of the 2615's with no engine problems whatsoever. Take it to your dealer and let them take a look at it.

As for the info in reference to the ticking sound...it sounds metalic in nature. It came on suddenly and remains. I think the sound is coming from the top or left side of the engine. I cant really isolate the noise. I contacted my dealer and they came out and looked at it and they are the ones who believe its the valves. This only seems to occurr when the engine is warm. When the engine is cold it sounds fine...
I see the responses from other dealers like REDRIVER, and I agree with them. I have never even seen a post on any of the forums in reference to this type of problem. My concern is how much they have to tear apart to adjust the valves..?

There isn't much disassembly required to adjust the valves. Just let your dealer take care of it.

Thanks, I am glad to hear that. From what the dealer said they will adjust the valves and I should never have another problem with them. The tractor runs good, has lots of power, which surprises me...I thought that the valves would make it run poor if they were out of spec.

You may also want to check your exhaust manifold. I've seen a crack in the manifold cause a tick sound after the engine warms up. A blown gasket usually has a different sound, but could be possible as well.

GI Joe,
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the manifold would be on the left side of the engine correct...that is also where I thought the sound was coming from to begin with...interesting. I will really check that thing out before they come to pick it up tomorrow.

You might take a section of garden hose and use it to help locate the noise

SF,
I'm sorry I can't help you with that question. I've operated a 15 series but have never opened the hood on one. I've got the 10 series, and the ex manifold is on the left. Yours may be also.

GI JOE,
I went out and looked at the tractor and started it up. At cold start the noise is less than it is at temp. I checked the manifold and that seems to be fine. The noise is coming from the top of the engine for sure, I just can't pin-point the exact location...being the front (towards the fan) or the back of the engine. It is quite annoying, but my dealer is coming to get it in the morning. I am sure if there is a bigger problem they will find it. I just hope to have it back before the next storm hits....!
