I’m trying to remove the starter assembly on my 2655 HST Cab. The starter solenoid/main terminal area is badly corroded and damaged, so I’m planning to remove the whole starter/solenoid assembly and at least replace/rebuild the terminals and solenoid part of it.

The starter is tucked behind the loader mount/subframe area, and I can only get a wrench on the mounting bolts with very limited swing. I haven’t found a workable angle for a socket/wobble extension, and I can’t get enough leverage to break the bolts loose. Even if I get the bolts out, I’m not totally clear on the extraction path for the starter.

I’d love to have the dealer handle this, but my local dealer does not offer mobile service and will not transport the machine, so I’m trying to figure out the practical removal procedure myself. I also have the workshop manual, but I haven’t found a starter removal procedure in it. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You could ask your dealer’s service folk (.i.e., the actual mechanics) how they would remove the starter. I have found dealer’s service folks to be more than helpful in similar situations.

I’m assuming you do not have access to a suitable trailer and/or tow vehicle. You could arrange transport and to and from the dealer. Your machine is light enough, it could be transported on a roll back wrecker with a steel deck. If you’re flexible enough on timing, the wrecker operator may transport it for a reasonable price (dependent on round trip mileage).
