Does a 2720 have enough power to pull a middle buster?
the people I talk to at tractor supply and other attachment sites all say not a problem but is that just sales talk ?

I use a middle buster with my 2320 to dig ditches for 1 inch irrigation pipe in pretty rocky soil. So far I have had no problem going about 12 or 14 inches deep. The worst that has happened is if I try to use the middle buster in late summer after the ground has turned to a consistency pretty close to concrete I need to make a couple of passes. I have R4s and run out of traction before I run out of power. I would take it very slow if you have soil with a lot of big rocks in it just to avoid large impact loads on the aluminum casing the 3 point is attached to if the middle buster gets hung up on a rock.

Hiya,

Yep, should be able to pull it reasonably well however, being a 2000 series, it doesn't have the weight and therefore the traction to fully utilize it's horsepower with ground engaging implements.

Tom has a good point. I do have loaded tires for additional traction and can also grab a load of dirt in the bucket for even more weight.

It's been said, but I will say it again.

Power is not the issue with a middle buster. Pulling something like that through the ground requires weight, and we all know weight = traction. The 2720 is far too light for any serious ground ripping. It all depends on what kind of ripping you want to do, in what kind of soil.

I always assumed the 2720 would run out of traction before it ran out of power but recently, while pulling out a 5" stump, I managed to run out of power. I have loaded R4 tires, a FEL and ~670 lbs. of ballast in the ballast box. I hooked my pull chain to the fixed draw bar, put it in 4WD, revved up the engine and proceeded to creep ahead in low. The chain tightened, the stump wiggled, the tractor groaned a little and simply ground to a halt. That was it. No forward motion, no tire spinning. THAT is getting 100% of the power to the ground and running out of power. :)

The OP mention a middle buster which is usually use for potato digging or making furrows and that will not be a problem with his 2720. On the other hand, if he is going to use it as a subsoiler, I can not see this thing working for ripping ground. JMO
