I am upgrading my log splitter which I built 40 years ago.
I used s tecumseh 10 hp HH100 and a Viking 22 gpm pump.
It has operated flawlessly other than being slightly under powered when pushing max pressure of 2500psi which would slowly stall the engine.
I rescued a 16 HP 320000 series Cast iron Briggs&Stratton with electric start and gave it a complete rebuild with a new +0.010 piston and standard OEM connecting rod and electronic ignition.
To complete my upgrade I want to purchase a 28 gpm 2 stage pump that is made in the USA.
My research lead me to believe Haldex/Concentric/Barnes were made in the USA but talking to Northern Hydraulics I was told they are also made in China.
I can buy a dynamic and most other brands (China) for $260 but the Haldex, Concentric, Barns goes for $400 plus.
Made in USA and quality with repair parts availability is my goal.
Looking for your thoughts on this.

I purchased a Concentric 28 gpm pump from northern hydraulics.
They couldn’t say if it was made in USA but it was the more expensive of the two they offered and said they have had no complaints.
When I received it I placed it next to my 22 gpm Viking pump.
The Viking was quite a lot bigger than the new 28 gpm concentric.
Seeing this I was anxious to install it to verify gpm output.
The new pump flows 22gpm at 2880 rpm.
Prior to removing the Viking I recorded the cycle time of 8.4 seconds running at 2880 rpm.
The new pump cycled at 7.15 seconds at the same engine speed.
My cylinder is 4x24 with a 1.75 rod.
After running it a bit I realized the love joy couplings were now severally overloaded so a new set was ordered.

Typically log splitter pumps, regardless of manufacturer are considered non repairable because average labor and parts cost would exceed replacement cost.

I received the new couplings and installed them then took it outside to give it a good run.
I increased the pressure to 3000psi and the engine (old 16hp cast iron Briggs&Stratton) had no problem maintaining 3000psi.
The 15 gallon tank warmed up quickly at the 22 gpm flow rate.
I found 1 leak at the pump outlet.
The outlet is npt not an O-ring boss like the Viking. Why would they use npt in a hi-pressure location??
Anyway I need to remove & reseal that fitting.
Overall I am very pleased with this project.
More than fast enough to keep 2~3 people very busy splitting.
