Hello. I'm new to this site. I ran across it a few weeks ago when I started my little adventure. I agreed to fix a tractor for my daughters horse trainer that got taken apart by someone else about a year ago. I had a pile of new parts and an engine torn apart. I need to say that I never put an engine together before, let alone on a tractor. So today I turned the key for the first time and she is alive again. That's the good part.

Now on to my new issue. I was told that the pto wasn't working and when it did it spewed out fluid. I got that to work and no sign of fluid. My issue is that I can't get the 3 point hitch to move up or down. It's stuck in the up position. I mess with all of the switches and still nothing.

WHAT AM I MISSING??????

I found that the limiter switch has been moved due to a missing bolt. That I will fix next time I'm there. My thinking is either a switch or relay has shorted or a valve is stuck. Do I need to push a button on the dash to make something turn on?

Please be nice to me as I'm nowhere close to an auto mechanic. I just have a lot of common sense and a grasp on how things should work. Thank you upfront for any help.

Is there an implement on the 3 point hitch? Have you attempted to stand on the hitch with the position control lever in the full down position? Have you checked to see where the hydraulic fluid is on the dipstick?

Just another thought some tractors have a valve that controls how fast the hitch drops. On mine if I turn it all the way slow the hitch doesn't drop at all.

First off: I want to say congrats for doing the assembly work. I might be able to get to that point in a year. :banghead:

I have a Mahindra Max 25 that has a handle on the right hand side that controls the "up" position on the three point system (3PH). (I'd rather have three pints.) I have found that if I have the 3PH handle all the way to the top that the front-end loader works in reverse and very slowly. I suspect that some valve gets reversed in that situation. So maybe try lowering the the 3PH handle/regulator and see how it works.

Just throwing out my :2cents:.

Thank you all for the responses. I don't have an implement on it at this time. I was trying to put one on and found out this new problem. I do have fluid in it, there may not be enough but it's there. I did try pulling it down, but not standing on it yet. When I figured out that the PTO does work and how to use it, I figured out what he knob below the seat does. Like I said, I'm new to tractors.

I think I'm going to add fluid, run the PTO's for a little while and see if I may not have done something right. It may be that it hasn't worked in so long that it may be stuck in this position.

One other thing may be the lift arms might just be stuck in the up position from not being used. I haven't had that problem with my own tractor but the guys at work did with theirs. They called me to look at it for them. (I work in a different dept. but they knew I had a tractor). Theirs stuck from lack of lubrication and probably some rust as they use a PTO salt spreader for doing the sidewalks. We soaked all the linkage and arms for a while and tried standing on the arms but ended up lowering a truck snow plow onto the arms for enough weight. Once it went down it worked fine after that.
