This thread (hopefully) is about the feasibility, viability and practicality of having two sets of mounted, differing tires and if you did this, why you did it or if you want to, why you might want to.

Here is why I want to.

What I do with my BX is a couple radically different tasks. Thus, again, for the price quoted, (and that is key to the thread) would I have two sets of wheels/tires? My answer is yes.

Also, for the record, a BX1860 is not offered with a middle of road, general purpose, industrial type tire. Not an option. Turfs or Ags, that's it.

As for damaging lawns- Grass and root systems isn't grass/roots everywhere and the soils that these differing lawns are anchored to is not the same everywhere. Geeez! It isn't that hard to understand that different people, with different lawns, with vastly different turf types, in vastly different climates, at differing times of the year might have particular needs or situations that don't match up?

Sweeping generalities don't cut the mustard, at least not with folks up here in Beaver Creek. :D

I wish I could get a set of turfs for my B7610 for that price!

Me too! I bought a set of wheels with turfs for my B7500. I can't recall how much I paid, but it was a lot more than $400!
I found the turfs were easier on *my* yard than industrial tires. Our yard is sloped and much of it is shaded. Also we usually get plenty of rain. Even when the grass is dry, the ground is often a little damp.

I bought my BX2230 in the late summer of 04.I chose the turf tires.I live in rural Columbia County Northwest of Portland Or.True to popular belief we get a heavy amount of rainfall annually. The turf tires don't work very well in mud.I soon purchased a set of Ag tires, put them on and my brand new turf tires are in the corner of my shop.It seems the ag tires work best all around for me.I only use my BX on my property not in my yard. What ever works for your situation.

WooHoot!! Ok, so I'm excited. Forgive me.

Ordered my second set of wheels and tires (Ags) today for my BX1860. New, Whole Goods, $295. In speaking with the dealer, if I am patient to wait until he gets a load shipped, which he is expecting in the next few weeks, shipping costs are cut in half.

Hard to wait for two weeks to a month, but for $50 bucks savings, I will have to. The slightly more expensive option was shipping direct, to house, within 5 days. Tell me waiting a few weeks will make them even sweeter. Right?

This is what I will using the Ags for in the future, although the turfs did this plowing just fine.

I run 2 sets of tires also,,, I have a 7610 and in the winter I run the r-4 with chains.."only on back" and in the summer after I get the firewood out of the brush I switch back to the turfs...paid about 400 also for my turfs,,used at my dealer..

Well I just called my nearest dealer and he quoted me $1000 for a set of Ag's for my B7610. That's about 1/8 what I paid for the tractor. $500 would have been reasonable.

Yes, that is about what I was quoted for a set of turfs when I asked....... (B2620)

Well I got one set of ags and one set of turfs when I bought the BX2200. After one season, the turfs have been sitting in the crawlspace under the house, unused. (Will sell if anyone is interested.) Others' opinions will differ, and that is fine, but for me, the ags work in all situations. They do not damage my lawn, but when I plow, the turfs just spin, regardless of whether the clay is hard and dry with a dusty surface, or wet and mucky. Everyone needs to buy what works in his own situation, otherwise they would not make and sell differing types tires, foam, weights, etc. What works for one person's situation may not work for another's.

I will recommend one thing. When I bought the tractor, I also went to Harbor Freight Tools, and bought, at half price while on sale, a hydraulic hand jack and an electric impact wrench with correct size lug socket. I think all of it was about $70. That made it possible to do a NASCAR style quick change of the wheels. If you are going to change wheels very often, this is an investment well worth the money. (BTW, and this is common sense, this is more easily done with unweighted BX wheels than with wheels of larger tractors, especially if weighted.)
